The scottish use 'wee' a lot. Kenny uses it in his book quite often.
    Are we winning?

I wasn't laughing at you BTW, thought I was laughing with you as I did think you were on a wind-up.
      He's laughing at you Nicey.

This thread really has taken a fascinating turn.
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Don’t be so grumpy, it’s only veered a wee bit off topic.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I don't mind in the least it veering off-topic, it's just that the discussion has become so enthralling that I'm getting worried I might never be able to stop thinking about the significance of Dalglish's use of a long-established Scottish trope.

Conversation I had with my brother's girlfriend who is studying Spanish/teaching English in Bogota:

Me: In South America what does Negrito mean and can it be used in a negative/racist way?
Reply: anything that has 'ito' or 'ita' on the end, is said with love. its also quite common for partners to call their loved ones gordito/a (little fatty) and no one seems to bat an eyelid. xx
Reply: oh.. negrito = little black man.
Reply: or little black dog, little black plate, anything little and black!
Me: Thanks, that's quite interesting. Reason I ask is because a Uruguayan Liverpool player called another player negrito and has been accused of being racist. Lots of people defending him saying that this term isn't at all racist and that it is the English direct intepretation that is the problem.
Reply: had a little chat about this in class today. the general consensus was that they would only say it to friends/family/partners etc. could be offensive if you said it to someone you didnt know.
Me: It was definitely intended to be offensive or at least wind the guy up but the question is was it racist or just rude?
Reply: when i said offensive i really meant racist.

                    Hmmmm

Racism intentional or not, is still racism.

Agreed, but why should racism be treated worse than if a player insults another player's nationality or obscenely insults another player's mother?
There should be consistency, that's all I'm saying...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

                          I would have to agree.

Not to deviate too much from the thread topic, I don't think Cruyff is a racist given the amount of charitable work he did in Africa for various African communities over the years and what he did for Ajax in 80's when they had the restrictions on the number of black players in the academy and the squad and he was instrumental on eliminating those restrictions but his recent comment to Davids that he's on Ajax board cause he's black is a racist slur even though he had no intentions to offend him.

My point was that you may not be a racist at all but you can make a statement that can be seen and understood as racist (with racism being such sensitive and touchy subject) even though you had not intentions to do so.
