      He's not though is he.
Let's be honest here he isn't good enough for a side looking/hoping to challenge for the top 4.

There is a reason why he isn't a regular, never got anywhere near the England age group sides and that reason is he isn't good enough.
Keep him in the squad because he's scouse and loves the club, will be cheap, not expect to play every week? Fair enough, no problem with that.

Actually expect him to contribute to a top 4 side regularly over the course of the season?
      Not for me.

If Jay was playing for another Championship or Premier League side would you want us to buy him? how much would you pay for him if so?
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I think any form of midfield structure would help. The Bolton game was woeful but someone, anyone frankly from midfield taking position relative to the defence rather than chasing the ball like they were playing playground football would be nice.

I feel sorry for Spearing in that he is to some degree trying to become a specialist player after being a generalist to some extent as a younger player. The DM position is hard to learn as we have seen with Lucas in some ways. At the minute we need a player with his willingness to follow instructions and ability to tackle. Whether in the long run he is good enough to make regular contributions only time will tell.

He's about as good as Darren Fletcher was at his age and he's been contributing to a Title Winning side.

He's a good player who's improving all the time, where he's from has or should not have anything to do with it.

              I think we'll go 6-3-1.

Fletcher is a much better player than Jay.
Fletcher made his Man U debut at 17, has played 200 games for them and was a full scotland international at 19, he's now won 58 caps.
He's won 9 major medals and has been included in the PL team of the year voted for by fellow pros.

Yes I have been on Wiki because I'm not a Man U so had no idea on his stats but to claim Spearing is as good or better than Fletcher is ridiculous.

Not looking forwards to Weds as City will throw everything bar the kitchen sink at us...Nervous as fook cos Silva is back, they missed him in the first leg whereas who the fook have we got to look after him...Most Utd fans are hoping that City take the match to extra time so we'd be knackered for the their cup tie on Sat!
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

                    So you would buy him?
                    Hypothetically -
It's the January transfer window, Lucas is out for another 6 months and we're desperately looking around for a defensive midfielder.
There's a 23 year old with about 20 odd career appearences in his 5 years as a pro playing for Wigan called Spearing.

Would you honestly be on here and elsewhere saying that lad Spearing looks the business, we should sign him, he would be ideal for us.
How much do you think we would have to pay for him?

Or would you think nah that Spearing, he's ok and even though he's a life long red and would love to sign he's not good enough for us, he's not what we need to get us top 4.

Arbeloa was rotting at Real Madrid b until about 23, then got a few games at Depor and we signed him. Is he ****?

Your point is a bit bizarre, theres 1000s of other players out there so chances are I wouldnt buy anyone in our squad apart from Suarez. Doesn't mean he's not a decent player though, he quite clearly is.

He's got you there the Birdman has Gingawaria - Surprised you whilst Arguing Fletcher's case? Seem to have Completely forgotten that when He was Jay's age? He got nothing But Dog's abuse from the United fans, Near Constant demands to sell him from The OT Crowd & even accusations of Scottish based favoritism were launched at Ferguson for keeping Fletcher in the team in the face of a constant barrage of complaints about him so by That measurement? Jay right now as compared to Fletcher At His Age? Is doing a Lot better than Darren did & there's No refuting that fact.....................

Also btw the Birdman? We were supposedly looking at the likes of Cattermole & Mccarthy from Wigan in recent years - Neither of whom's a Patch on Jay as a player or in terms of potential (& we Did buy Henderson whose roughly his equal); So anyway, to say If Jay was there in their reserves we would look at him? Is not That far fetched a scenario.........................

NB Good Point re Arbeloa Chris.
