2012/13 ticket price freeze and 2013/14 rise

    Well done Liverpool FC

Managing director Ian Ayre said: "We have always aimed to ensure that we match our commercial and financial aspirations with the interests of our fans.

"In 2011 we increased prices in line with inflation and the government rise in VAT to 20 per cent, but having reviewed the current UK economic climate and our up and down team performance we felt it important to flatten prices despite UK inflation being around 3.5 per cent.

"Our fans have shown tremendous support for the team this season, at home and away, and with long runs in both the FA Cup and Carling Cup, we wanted to recognise that commitment with this announcement today."

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm expecting a letter from FSG to land on Shaggy's doorstep informing him of his immediate ban from Anfield until further notice.

Comolli, Brukner, Scolding Achterberg, Wignall, Cotton and hopefully Shaggy. Sorry mate, but you're just an unlucky influence on the team.

It's actually quite bizarre how unlucky you've been. Am I right in thinking that you missed the Chelsea game because you swapped it to be in Spain? Or something like that?

Yep. That was my game from day one, last game of the season, and as the season wore on with loads of draws and defeats, was my last chance of witnessing a win. But the Cup final clash and rearrangement meant I was away FFS, so swapped it for Fulham. **** my life.

If we're being fair prices should be reduced!

If prices were fair we'd have been refunded on the way out of 50% of our games this season.

Liverpool fans' group Spirit of Shankly has hit out at the Merseyside club's hike of up to 9% in Anfield ticket prices for next season, labelling it "an insult to long-standing supporters".

The Reds announced the news of a reshuffle to ticket prices - that centres on a new six-tier ticket system - on Friday.

Season tickets in the Kop will either remain at the same price or be reduced, while a £5 child ticket option is to be introduced for specific matches. However, fans in the Main Stand and Paddock will have to pay more for next season's tickets.

And Spirit of Shankly, which recently launched a campaign to reduce away ticket prices around the country, feels that prices should remain the same for the whole of Anfield.

A Spirit of Shankly statement read: "In the midst of austerity, with redundancies and cutbacks a daily reality for many supporters, these inflation-busting price rises are an insult to long-standing supporters who have already suffered a massive 716% price rise since 1989. Supporters in the Main Stand and Paddock endure facilities that survived the Shankly era redevelopment, with so-called 'concourses' dating back to 1907, while the cramped seating in the Lower Centenary has been notorious since that structure was built as the Kemlyn Road stand in 1963.

"It is our guess that not one of Liverpool's multiple 'owners' has ever watched a match from any of these seats and that none of them have ever availed themselves of the so-called 'facilities' in the Paddock or Main Stand. If we are wrong, then more shame on them for believing £815 to £850 is fair price to pay for 'the product' on offer.

"While the announcement regarding Kop season tickets is a relief to many, it is our belief that ticket prices are already too high, pricing out many of those that kept the club on its feet during its darkest days."

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre explained the reasoning behind the new changes to the club's official website.

"Over the past two years the club has given careful consideration to ticket prices and pricing structures in consultation with the Supporters Committee," he said.

"Following last year's price freeze this year we have reviewed our overall stadium pricing structure and, similar to many other Premier League clubs, from next season we will also be introducing a multiple-tier pricing structure which will more accurately reflect seat location and view."

Haha - good old SOS. They obviously don't seem to realise that some of that money will go towards stadium renovation of those seats, albeit maybe not in the lower centenary.

The price of watching football in this country is frankly scandalous. But then going to Anfield is pretty good value when compared to going to a West End show. Or watching the Rolling Stones, or Michael MacCintyre.
                            Oh I don't know.
