Yeah, but its much more effective than an arm in the air now with VAR.

I always thought you needed plenty of pace (for when it goes wrong) but i think faith in the system and the back four knowing their job is much more important.

We certainly couldn't have done it when Enrique was still with us.

Yeah I think we play that high line very well and it works out nicely for us.

The problem is actually perception. As play continues now when someone is offside it often looks like our matches are closer than they really are. You'll hear commentators talk about the missed chances the opposition had, when in reality many of those "chances" were offside anyway and are irrelevant.

Definitely a gripe of mine anyway

In our house, "just offside" is definitely a bugbear.

        So offside then?

That was definitely the case against Burnley - nearly every chance they had was offside but the pundits seemed to forget this when discussing how ‘close’ the game was

The linesman not flagging when the player moves off side as the ball is played is a nightmare...
Lino only flagging when the attacker plays the ball but by that time a player may be going in for a challenge and getting injured.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

I do worry about the ball over the top, and we will get exposed from time to time.

I worry that we compress play too much and find it difficult to break some teams dien, so sitting back a bit and hitting on the break could be a plan b... but we always seem to go plan a... which works most of the time anyway.
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

                Talking of compressing play...
I was watching motd, they were doin the post match analysis on spurs vs wolves, they made the point that wolves changed their shape in the second half and that really helped them.
Rather than pushing up as far as they were they dropped back a bit deeper and allowed spurs more room to bring the ball out. This meant the pitch was less congested and this allowed wolves more room for their players to work the ball forward.
                Interesting.

Must be a left back thing, as Robbo has a tendency to break the line at times also

There was an incident when Alisson rushed out at the weekend and I thought just that

                        Again

I've often wondered why we don't occasionally gift a corner or throw-in to our opponents just to coax them out of their half

Yep, Klopp (and Fabinho) touched on this.

Post match the narrative is that we were exposed defensively on numerous occasions. Pundits forget that 2 or 3 of these were actually pulled back for offside. The playing on bit tricks people into thinking attacks are more successful. A couple on Sunday were miles offside.
                          Modifying post.

Yeah... I am not going to criticise Klopp's tactics too much, and its not like we are struggling to score this year. It was a problem in the past.

My solution: Release the pressure slighly
Klopp's solution: More ****ing pressure!!! Raaaarghhhhhhh!!!

you can maybe move the line back, but you still have to compress the play when you're gegenpressing. klopp's philosophy is that if you stay in their half for the whole game, then you only have to run half as far. if you can sprint a short distance to win the ball rather than retreating 40 yards and then attacking 40 yards, then you retain stamina into the later stages of the game. so he says, anyway, i have no idea if the numbers back his theory but i wouldn't bet against him.

oh, also, our defensive tactics don't work without pacey centrehalves. can't remember what year it was but virgil clocked the highest speed in the CL recently chasing back. if we didn't have defenders that catch forwards trying to chase balls in behind our line it would be a disaster. we'll actually need a new pairing in the next few years as imo virgil is slowing down and matip isn't exactly young either.
