last season had plenty of names on the score sheet, but many just chipping in with the odd goal.

gerald has done his bit [and more] in recent years, but not so much any more. coutinho and henderson have had a few goes at goal, they must be under orders.
goals from our wide/wing/full backs have dried up too...

We've changed how we play as well from last season.

We didn't really have 2 front men last season like we're playing now, we do need more goals from midfield BUT we've also scored 21 goals in 11 games this season compared to 14 goals last season, a 3rd more in the same time period.

Coutihno in the team allows us to play in a more direct way, because he always looks up for the killer pass. I wish we are a bit more patient, especially away from home.

                  bournemouth beaten, but everton next...

coutinho was invisible and gave nothing.

with suarez and sturridge on the pitch together, both wandering deep, i would argue that we dont need a conventional number 10 as they are both playing that role for each other and are intelligent to swap/adapt at will.

this will mean we can add a bit more depth to out already thin midfield and this might help prevent us being over ran against everton.

are they not dropping deep due to lack of numbers in the middle though, we are gonna need some bodies in the middle on tuesday, henderson/gerrard and ?

its true they come deep, partly due to the lack of powerful support from midfield, but i reckon they also are aware that sitting nearer goal allows defence to sit all over them.
they much prefer to run at defenders, they are so mobile they scare the **** out of other defenders. their interplay and support for each other is excellent.

very true about the gaping whole in our midfield support though

talking of sitting deep and being able to run at the opposition...

what a ****ing fantastic result, but more importantly we bossed the game with scintillating counter attacking. an almost perfect team performance, so many players had strong games. buzzing

That is how we can beat Arsenal when they come to Anfield, we can't outplay them I'm afraid, tried that at the Emirates and didn't work. If you can sit back and absorb pressure and then hit them on the counter you have a real chance.

We seem increasingly playing a Benitez style of counter attack, which is really the opposite of Brendans original possession philosophy

I do think that it plays more to our strengths using the pace of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling, allowing Gerrard and Coutinho to look to play a through ball in behind the defence.

The only problem is you need a very tough defence and a good holding midfielder to play it effectively, and a keeper very confident on crosses, who can release the ball quickly. I think we have half a great team, but even with our first choice back four, I am not sure they can absorb a lot of pressure before buckling (although that remains to be seen as they probably have yet to all play together).

Can you imagine if Benitez had Sturridge, Suarez and Coutinho?

Our team always seem to be a whack-a-mole style of weakness. We sort one problem out and a new one appears. Having had the toughest defence in the Premier League if not the world for so long, its annoying finally getting an awesome attack that we struggle defensively now.

Hopefully we have a surprised lines up before the end of the week, as we have a great chance here, and ManUre are going to chase us all the way.
