we solve this midfield problem by playing a trio of henderson allen and lucas. That way we know for a fact that both allen and henderson will chase back and hendo will get forward.

Shelvey has the potential to be a fantastic player but at present he;s either absolutely brilliant or he's absolutely rubbish and anonymous but you accept that from young players. I also believe that you simply cant play gerrard and shelvey in the same team. They're both too lazy and undisciplined and leave us exposed constantly.

Its one or the other or neither.

1st goal Reina is beat from 25 yards at his near post (i.e Benteke was left side of central facing our goal and beat Reina to his right)
Reina had clear sight of the ball all the way, he was slow to move his feet and sluggish getting down.
How is Allen to blame for the 2nd goal?
I'm also baffled how people think it's Allen's fault that a centre back does nothing to stop a centre forward walk past him onto his stronger foot in the box to score the third.

From under 8's football upwards when teaching/coaching about defending the first point is 'straight down' meaning the danger is the ball so as the defender you go straight down the line of the ball.
After that Skrtel has to, has to show Benteke onto his weaker left foot, narrowing the angle but he doesn't, he gets square on and allows Benteke to walk inside, no tricks just shift the ball onto his sronger right foot opening up the whole goal.

The fact Allen is trying to make a recovery tackle and gets shrugged off is irrelevent if Skrtel does his job properly.

It's amazing how people see what they want to see.

Allen has been below his best recently, he's knackered and badly needs a rest but to blame him for the 3 goals is ridiculous
Have it in for him is too strong

I just dont think hes good enough, certainly not at the minute anyway

The second goal the player runs off Allen and if he had tracked back he could have been in position to cut it out

My big problem with Allen is that I struggle to see what he contributes to the team, he cant defend and he doesnt affect the play enough higher up the pitch

Sorry but thats how I see it, others might think hes Xavi/Busquets but from what I have seen I dont think hes up to much

I wrote a long post and somehow it got deleted so just to sum up my feelings:

This team is not in the results business. A 'near miss' has become acceptable and I feel certain players are looking for the limelight with their efforts on goal instead of looking at the bigger picture, which is the final result.

It shows we were outfought on Saturday. A subtle but important difference.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I am being a bit thick here and I am not trying to be sarky, but what is the difference?

It would be interesting to see similar stats for our other games

The way Lecter said it implies it's an ongoing problem. But the data for Saturday just tells us (something, probably quite a lot) about what happened on Saturday.

I agree. I'm not suggesting it would invalidate your point either, just that that's what we need to confirm or refute it.

He just means it's just one game.

As Lec says, need all the other stats to see if it's a regular thing.

We are crossing an awful lot, why did we loan Carroll again?
                          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

                            Because he is injury prone.

                            Not the answer you expected

Benteke looks a good player but, as with Carlton Cole last game, we made him look like Benzema. He's good but he's not THAT good for ****'s sake.

Doesn't change my opinion on Rodgers, I still think he's a good manager with a lot to offer but sooner or later we're going to need a plan B - pretty possession just isn't winning games at the moment, maybe it will when we have a few slightly better players but right now it's just not cutting it.
Cole looked very average against us and Skrtel dominated him across the game. That didn't happen v Villa.
