All well and good dropping Lovren,but there's no real decent option to replace him,which shows how poor recruitment has been and why was Lovren given a new contract and what the **** does Klopp see in him....But looking at the overall picture.....Matip,Lovren,Moreneo and Klavan are really the best of a bad bunch...

He's actually not too bad on his left, certainly one of our better players but yes I agree, looks much more comfortable on the right.

As mentioned he's doing the basics well and looks a lot better and more of a leader. That tackle yesterday was brilliant and reminds of Gerrard's tackle on Jagielka years back when he munched him.

i'm not that convinced about Matip any more but that could just be because he's next to lovren and the midfield offer zero protection

if this was football manager i'd be after two class cb's with matip as 3rd choice/pushing for a start and Gomez playing as 4th choice - both lovren and klavan would be out the door.

Matip is OK, but overrated by our fanbase IMO.

We tend to do that alright but hard to get a barometer of where Matip is at when a) We keep switching the defence up b)We keep putting ****e & kids beside him. Won't judge him until we get a settled backline that doesn't contain Lovern or Moreno.

Agreed that Matip isn't the problem, he's not vocal and comes across a bit meek but stick a top quality dominant CB next to him and he'd be just fine. He's great at bringing the ball out of defence.

I think because our defence is so bad at times that his reputation improves as a result.

He's much better than Lovren/Klavan - but in an ideal world i'd have VVD and Another with Matip pushing them.

He looks, without it trying to sound to obvious - that he'd be a great player in a good defence if that makes sense.

Ie, lets say he was playing inbetween Hyypia and Finnan, then he'd probably excel.

I think the opposite. Matip has a total muppet next to him whenever he plays and more than anywhere else on the pitch playing CB is about the partnership. He is absolutely hamstrung by dog **** partners but still does pretty well for us. Get someone like VVD next to him and things would improve a lot imo.

I really dont get why we didnt sign a centreback. Even if VVD was not available, we could have bought someone in to be 2nd or 3rd choice... leaving Lovren 4th choice once VVD arrives. Not convinced Southampton will sell to us though.

Either way, it was a huge error signing no one. Lovrens mistakes destroy the confidence of the rest of the defence and Mig.
