He played quite well up until then, but he needs to concentrate and seemed to lose his composure.

It was awful, but the tide had already started to turn following their changes. The chipped cross came after a minute or two of schoolyard scrambles in midfield with too many of our players getting drawn in too close to the ball.

That was the most annoying part of it - don’t let Lovren make the mistake, just thump it in midfield

But then he and Virgil can limit the highest scores in the league to a single goal over a 180 minute quarter final. Not convinced any other CB of ours could have tbh. I don't think he will be sold so you'll be raging for some time to come imo.

sorry but i'll be disappointed if he is first choice next season. could have given away a pen first half and got caught with the ball second that nearly went in and then cost a goal doing god knows what. its too many times now

It wasn't a long ball over the top, it was a great pass. He should have done better but we need to control games until the end, not just phases of all out running and attacking, that surely should help overall composure of the players.

Sorry Fredo - a decent CB doesn’t get caught out there. He had a panic then for the next few mins and nearly got mixed up with TAA right afterwards for which Hendo bollocked him. Lovren has glaring errors in him and the ability the cause panic in the defence.

I think you are underestimating how much of an impact VVD has had on our defence. Check back in this thread I have been giving credit to him where it has been due but it does not take away the fact that he is the way he is. He cannot be coached and will not changed.

He's a liability, always expect a massive mistake from him in most games he plays. Any sustained pressure and he goes to pieces. I don't want to argue with you about it, I can't stand him, awful defender that will cost our team time and time again.

That’s the worst of it for me. He loses concentration, we lose shape and players start to panic.

He wasn't the only one. Van Dijk a couple of times made mistakes which caused panic. It's systemic we have phases when we allow the opposition an opportunity.

We need to do better for 100% of games, not just Lovren. Until we do that, we will rely on moments of genius from our front players.
