I think starting two guys in Lucas & Borini who we tried to offload a few weeks ago isn't exactly a good sign. Lot of us were surprised and worried about the the lack of mobility in the Lucas/Gerrard partnership.. it hasn't worked before & it didn't work today.
Very hard not to get annoyed at the performance but it is worrying even this early in the season. It is early days but losing three points is the same no matter what stage in the season we are at. As regards the new players argument, i get that... but sure West Ham had 4 or 5 new players playing today too. Lot of teams in the same boat but seem a lot more balanced.
IMO we are playing two many new players in the same back line whilst their defensive support in Gerrard is playing in a position that he just can't play. It's getting almost farcical looking at the complete and utter lack of communication in our defensive side of the game.
IMO Skrtel coming straight in after weeks out injury was a mistake, then playing him at RB..he was all over the place. Sakho i don't rate had a mare again & Lovren, I can't remember a player at LFC having a worst start..he looks atrocious. Can't really blame Manquillo who is a kid & Moreno who as i said before I don't think we'll see the best of until next season.
The keeper is a nightmare, not commanding, timid, docile take your pick... not good enough. Feel sorry for Henderson as his game has resorted to covering up gaps and holes left by Gerrard. It was much of a muchness as regards if we started Borini or Lambert.. both very different players but both out of their depth at LFC. I like Lambert but he is polar opposite to our style of play and looks lost & Borini is a headless chicken who is mobile ( probably why he started) but apart from that he is a poor footballer IMO.
I do not envy Rodgers with a decision with Gerrard in that defensive role, i love the man and he is a LFC legend but it's killing our midfield & effecting our back line... who lets face it is pretty shocking as is. There is an obvious game plan playing against us.. so many gaping holes behind Stevie, balls into the box cause mayhem, young inexperienced full backs, zero communication between hapless CB's & a mute goalkeeper. The balance is all wrong, we don't seem to know what formation to play to suit the players we have.
Anyways i thought Sterling was absolutely fantastic today, asked to play everywhere today.. tireless work rate and a superb goal. On his own out there.Last edited by danperkins; 20-09-14, 09:07 PM.

I think hes an issue BUT hes not the issue.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostI think a good many fans see the writing on the wall. It's Gerrard he needs to sit down with.
And before people start getting on my back i'm not suggesting that Gerrard is dropped and never plays for the club again.
By that I mean press teams better and compete for second balls better and the Gerrard issue is diminished
Also I am not sure you can point the finger at Gerrard on too many of the goals we have conceeded, most of them have come about by poor positioning and individual errors by your goalkeeper and new £20m centrehalf
Lovren to me looks a shocking buyBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Agree with some of this, Lovren looks dire, hes made errors with whoever hes been playing withOriginally posted by danperkins View PostI think starting two guys in Lucas & Borini who we tried to offload a few weeks ago isn't exactly a good sign. Do you think? I can't see too much wrong with Mignolet's contribution for the first. The West Ham attacker gets above our defender (can't remember if it was Manquillo or Henderson) and headers it back across goal for an easy tap in. The ball was never low enough to claim and a header across the six yard box that gets turned in would be hard to blame him for. For me the defender at the back post is to blame there.
Maybe the second I suppose has more merit, but to me it looked like a mi**** cross, in spite of what Nial Quinn said about 'giving him the eyes'. A fluke that the guy probably won't do again for his entire career.Last edited by baronvonskidmark; 20-09-14, 09:12 PM.

Frightened mess. The clash of heads between Loren and Sakho was a symptom of this. Yes we were somewhat having to react on the move after finding ourselves almost out of the game early, but it was painful at times watching that defending today."I will make the boys feel your support"

Good post mate.Originally posted by Lecter View PostBefore destroying individual players this has been the major issue for me.
Pressing has been miles off, yes Suarez has left but that doesnt excuse Henderson and Sterling etc from not doing it enough. Also we dont compete for second balls anymore which we did last season. In both these regards we have regressed, to me its very reminiscent of Brendans first season in this regard
With the ball we look pedestrian and disjointed , maybe understandable with the changes made
In terms of players Mignolet is positionally terrible and has no bottle, Lovren looks positionally poor and I dont accept that its his partners affecting him. Its his own positional play thats his problem
Today like last week I thought selection was wrong. Sterling should have played v Villa, and Borini and Lucas should not be near a league starting line up. I can see the idea behind playing someone with movement up with Mario but that man isn't Borini hes not good enough. If he tries that again he has to go with someone else

I do agree Henderson hasn't been great this season but IMO he uses so much energy covering the spaces in front of the back line that he cannot do those box to box runs into opposition penalty area.Originally posted by Lecter View PostAgree with some of this, Lovren looks dire, hes made errors with whoever hes been playing with

As for Lovren, he's been a disaster so far. He is better than this but i wonder if the pressure at LFC is just too much for him?

that clash showed exactly what is wrong with our back line.... nervous, rash, no balance & zero communication.. It was a really tough watch today.
Agree with Lec, what the **** has happened to our pressing game and defending form the front? Did it leave to Barca aswell?

Maybe I am being harsh thought he could have come for the first, second one might have been a flukey shot but I am not sure hes positionally great or adjusts quick enough. Maybe its high standards from past keepers but to me hes a good shot stopper who isnt agile and isnt positionally great and is a ****house most of the time coming for the ballOriginally posted by baronvonskidmark View PostDo you think? Disagree regarding Henderson, his game is pressing high winning the ball back high. If he misses it then he has the engine to get back. Now the high press is miles off and that is a key transition into him breaking into the box and driving attacks.Originally posted by danperkins View PostI do agree Henderson hasn't been great this season but IMO he uses so much energy covering the spaces in front of the back line that he cannot do those box to box runs into opposition penalty area.

I dont think its Gerrard doing that its a lack of energy or drive from Hendo. I am a big fan of the lad he is undroppable at the moment but he set high levels last season and hes not half way there this season.

Positionally he is usually terrible as the goals against City and Ludogorets testify perfectly. He is probably not the keeper for us long term, but solely on today's showing he was ok imo.Originally posted by Lecter View PostMaybe I am being harsh thought he could have come for the first, second one might have been a flukey shot but I am not sure hes positionally great or adjusts quick enough. Listen the master forward presser of the ball was Rush, when he left in 87 it didnt disappear because Whelan and McMahon still kept energy and the press upOriginally posted by danperkins View Post

Suarez has gone but so has the rest of the pressure.
