So we played a blinder..!

This is Liverpool. For most of our time in the CL we've faced off against teams with superior players. And we raised our game. We stood tall, and even if we lost then by god we gave an account of ourselves. Even the best came to Anfield with a trickle of sweat down their neck.



What I watched tonight was a team with no fight. Madrid may have superb players, but they hardly exerted themselves, and I honestly think they took pity on a fallen giant in the second half. Job done. No need for humiliation. I'll be honest, it was the lack of fight part I was disappointed in. Our defence is a mess. I thought we'd get beat and we did. But I just wanted to see some fight. And our lack of fight isn't just in the CL.


I just feel deflated to be honest.

Mignolet, Johnson, Lovren & Skrtel were pathetic and had their usual diabolical performance, enough is enough they are ****ing rubbish but one player who appears to have got away scott free tonight is Joe Allen, an absolute nothing footballer that runs around and achieves absolutely nothing, weak as water and specialises in the sideways pass. Just what is the purpose of him? Madrid players treated him as if he wasn't there. I'm amazed he stayed on for the full 90 minutes he was just a waste of a shirt

I just hope that Rodgers can see that we're absolutely **** at the moment and I hope that he can change things soon. Okay we lost a world class player and our best striker is injured. We should have bought players to cope in the summer. I thought that Balotelli would be a good signing for us and he still could make an impact. Every game he plays it seems less likely. Johnson is poor, his decision making is frustratingly bad. We're just too average in too many positions. Last season we were awesome playing high energy pressing football. It really wasn't just about Suarez, it was the way we forced teams to make mistakes and capitalised with the speed of our attacking play. This season we are nervous and don't seem to have either an attacking or defensive strategy.

Said this in the match thread, i bet they've had harder training sessions. Cruise control. We came out adrenaline pumped, pressed and pushed forward & then they scored.... and our arse fell out of us. We looked terrified, Allen & Henderson got a serious schooling in the midfield.. it killed us. No fight, no passion, no bollox.

Too many timid characters & a complete lack of any sort of leadership or cohesion. I thought it was an embarrassing performance & IMO Madrid could have destroyed us in the second half but they were saving themselves for the Classico on the weekend.

Positives - Can looked good when he came on. Coutinho is back in decent form. Lovren seemed to snap at some point and started screaming at his defensive partners and the midfield, which is what he should have been doing all season.

Negatives - Allen had his worst game for a while, Skrtel had his usual **** game, Balotelli had one of his "can't be arsed nights" but my god just how bad was Glen Johnson tonight! Shocking performance.

Thought we were doing alright until they scored the first with a well worked move. Then we gifted them another couple and fell to pieces. In the end it was a stroll. Sterling had one of those "learning a lesson" nights, where none of his tricks worked against slightly better defenders than he's used to. No bad thing in the long run though.

Glad Rodgers finally saw sense second half and gave the "Sterling as a false 9 thing" a try - if he refuses to play Borini then it's really all we can do until Sturridge is fit. Desperately need two new strikers in January as things stand. (or one plus Origi)

Selling Agger has been a disaster. He might have been injury prone but give me agger for 75% of the season than Lovren for 100%.

We've completely ballsed it up. Selling Suarez and replacing him with Lambert and Mario is a disgusting piece of business.

Not really, you left out Gerrard being a bigger and bigger problem, the Sakho situation and Brendan isn't dealing with any of the problems. Last season, I thought he addressed problems efficiently but now I find he's practically ignoring them. Have a very bad feeling about the season.

So we lost to one of the 2-3 best teams in Europe/world at the moment, and it was expected. Not much to moan about in that regard. Didn't see much of the first half as I was out, but from what I gathered on the internet it seems like we were only run over after the first 20 min or so. Before that we seemed to do well. Second half we looked decent tbh. or at least looked fairly lively but with all the fundamental problems up front and in midfield.

Hopefully we will soon take a lesson from teams like Atletico, and when not the best team in terms of talent, then we need to make that up in work rate and desire. Something I'm not seeing all that much off these days. Almost like the team looks a bit tired.

We will loose again in 14 days, Real are just a powerhouse going forward, but hopefully we will be more compact by the time.
