I think Klopp only knows his focus has been that damaged after he sees the second error. You don't expect a manager to replace a keeper every time they make a mistake, most people would have been amazed if Karius had been subbed after the first mistake.

If he had subbed Karius that's 2 changes before the hour mark. It's a hell of a call to make with extra time to come when players could be fatigued and what not.

I know he mentioned that (well, Karius having bad thoughts), but he may also have been thinking that if we get an equaliser (Real 2-1 up), then we may need to consider substitutions during extra-time for outfield players.

Hauling Karius off after the first error in front of the watching world would've also been humiliating for him. I don't think anyone was expecting him to commit another howler, and be left utterly humiliated anyway.

I think Klopp was also looking back at Karius, and looking at an explanation for his second howler, rather than actively recognising he'd gone mentally.

If he said that it seems he made a clanger not subbing him. Hindsight and all that....

He said he only makes the second mistake because of being affected by the first, or something to that effect. But you don't know that until it happens. To waste another sub at that stage would have been ****ing ludicrous. You don't sub a keeper for making a mistake unless they are suddenly all over the shop afterwards. Karius seemed to cope no better or worse than any keeper does until he made the second mistake. Amazed this is even a discussion.

Yup hard call but no such a hard call is recognising that both are not good enough prior to this game. GK situation shold have been boxed off a long time ago. Klopp's faith in Mig was annoying, i'm hoping he doesn't stick with karius now too.

Meanwhile, Danny Ward has been left to train, with next to no game time, and your namesake Bogdanperkins is lingering around (binned for less).

Yeah baffling why Ward has been given zero opportunities even when other keepers making mistakes galore over last few years.

Stick with Karius now? He already 'stuck with him' this season when we should have had a proper first choice keeper on board. To persevere with him as first choice now would be.. well, words would fail me.

I've gone full circle. I feel sorry for the lad. He must be feeling like jumping off a cliff. I think he needs support. He has to go but not before we do what we can for him. He's a human at the end of the day. Poor ****er.

Hate to be in his shoes now.

It wouldn't surprise me Klopp did it with Mig, Lovren and Moreno. He gives players alot of chances to make up.

Personally I would binned Mig and Karius long before this game.

I've read that attributed to him rather than see it in a video or anything so I guess it could have been misinterpreted etc.

No but you probably do it if an outfield player makes a mistake like that and you think that their head has gone, the keeper is probably a more important position to ensure your head is right.

                                Absolutely

I'd be looking to get players in to seriously limit the playing time of all of those. Robbo saw to Moreno. We've failed to displace the other two, but keeper has to be prioritised this summer the way it should have been last year.

Centre back I'm less worried about as Lovren has maintained a reasonable level for some time and Matip is decent too. Long term though, it's definitely another piece of the puzzle that needs to be found. Perhaps not until after quality further forward is addressed.
