If everyone wins their games against non top 6 clubs the table would by

    38 Chelsea 93
    36 Spurs 83
    37 City 79
    36 Arsenal 72
    35 Utd 72
    33 Liverpool 66

That in itself is unlikely and couple with remaining fixtures 76 should be plenty of points

Not to say that it doesn't represent progress, as I think it does, but about 75% of those responding to the season prediction thread had us getting into the top 4.

That second Bournemouth result was particularly galling, because we should have been ravenous for their blood.

United on the other hand have a mare ahead of 'em.

The last couple of games have boosted my confidence in us getting that CL spot. We seem to be getting the knack of winning ugly and if we can keep a settled back five (Mig, Clyne, Matip, Lovern, and Milner) for the remaining games I think we will see more performances like that of yesterday.

Confidence here seems sky high on the back of wins against Stoke and West brom. Arsenal might not need all 9 points from their games in hand to catch us and utd might need need to win all of their tricky games. If we can barnstorm it until the end for season then brilliant, but we haven't had that kind of form for several months.

We've won 5 out of 7 (drawing the other 2) and Arsenal are 12 points behind with 3 in hand so they will need to win them all

Snowflakes chance in hell that Arsenal will finish above us. Their season is falling apart spectacularly. They'll be lucky to make Europe.

9 points off top, quick look through the fixtures 17 points dropped from winning positions although I think our record for picking points from losing is quite good 18 points.

Bournemouth/West Ham week. 5 points dropped in December.

Sunderland/Swansea in Jan also 2 that stick out. 5 dropped.

14 points from 9 games against current bottom 5, Boro still to play.

Should be a positive we can mix it with the big boys, and just need a bit more to bully the lower teams but doesnt feel like it.

People do forget our performance rate against low level teams. These last 5 games are anything but guaranteed.

We average exactly 2 points per game against top 6 rivals and we average eexactly 2 points per game against the rest.

We also didn't lost in the league to any of the teams we've still to play, averaged 2.2 points, scored 15, conceded 5.

I think it's fair to say we are in a strong position.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

We are third in the League on merit. Reading some comments you'd think we'd lost 15 games we've only lost 5 all season.

I think we will get top 4. I think we are in a great position.

We are five points behind Spurs, yes they have a game in hand and all that, but it they can supposedly catch Chelsea we can catch them.

All going well third is more than possible given how all the top teams still have to play themselves, and second not an impossibility - Spurs may still do a Spurs.

This is a very negative comment. We are above United and City, surely that would be seen as in pole position given there is 5 games left to play? No games are guaranteed, but we have points in the bag compared to our rivals who still have it all to do.
                          Are we winning?

Baffling really. We've been really good this season for the most part. We had a terrible run which killed our title aspirations but if we can get a top 4 finish and the world doesn't go mental for two years in a row and Leicester aren't crowned champions of Europe then bloody well done.

In some ways the drop off this season might help us in the future as it highlighted pretty brutally the paper thin squad we have at the moment and I can't believe Klopp will allow us to go into next season with that as a potential problem again.
