Offside decisions use cameras that operate at 50 frames per second. Assuming they can pinpoint the exact frame at which the ball is struck there is a 5.3cm margin of error. 1 frame either side and you have a 16cm margin of error.

Now what if the players are running?
I posted something about this last season (presumably in the VAR thread), after one of the really tight offside decisions. Saying that there was no way that the resolution they were attempting to achieve was possible.

There are some cameras that are faster than 50 fps (120 fps IIRC) but it is unclear which cameras are used for which decisions. But even assuming that the best (fastest) cameras are used, you can draw the lines for the forward and the defender perfectly, an error of one frame corresponds to inches rather than mm.

Edit here's a link to the post I did last season

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The loss of two points is annoying but the injuries to key players are of greater concern.

Not sure which Everton would be more happy about: not losing the derby or putting a couple of our players out for a while.

City and Chelsea our likely challengers. Makes our draw today even better. Sheffield Utd next. Hopefully with Thiago and Alison, if not VvD.

Come on Arsenal, give us a result tonight.

Chelsea won't be anywhere near us.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Yep. Chelsea are miles behind. Player and manager.

I thought we actually played really well- we were sloppy for both goals conceded and one or two sloppy moments going forward, but in general we bossed the game..

Everton away is always gonna be one of the toughest games of the season... also we have traditionally been rusty after international breaks.. also when you consider that Adrian was in goal, and then vvd had to go off after 6 minutes, and Gomez had to come on, after being dropped.... all things considered a point was a decent result- once vvd went off, I would have taken a point.

Very frustrating though, that we were robbed of the 3 points..
                      I don't tip

Don't think Pickford's was on purpose, just a keeper rushing out and spreading himself, but happening to clatter into Virg's planted foot. The Richarlison one tho, that was different.
