What's the point they can't tell him to go look at the screen as he already has,as soon as he gave the pen i couldn't be arsed shouting at the tv myself as i knew it was never going to be overruled.i think just like the fans the players want the season over, they've had enough of football like a lot of us.

I think the issue with this decision is the clear and obvious BS (which I believe is still used/might still be used/who the **** knows anymore).

As the ref gave a penalty on the pitch, with the clear and obvious guidance the only way that decision is over turned is if there is no contact (we can argue about it all we like and whether that should or shouldn't be the case) because in this context contact = penalty meaning he made the right decision there is no way it can be overturned even if watching the incident again the ref doesn't think it's a penalty. It explains why the ref only briefly looked at the screen, he wasn't watching to review the decision he was looking at it from the clear and obvious error point of view, for me that's the only way it makes sense.

I don't even know what the current official guidance is on use of VAR to overturn decisions is whether we do officially have the clear and obvious stuff or once at the monitor the official has the freedom to change is decision however he likes. If feels lno one knows and referees as Souness said are just making it up as they go along.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The defense has been ****ed by injuries this season. The midfield has been ****ed by injuries and by covering for the defense. The attack has been ****e apart from Mo. When you see Origi coming on yesterday, it was time to turn off then ffs.

For me, Mane and Firmino have been a bit of a let down this season..... Masked by the injuries to other players

Wasn't missing the dive a clear and obvious error though, what with calvert lewis going down before there was any contact?

With the clear and obvious it seems to me on the basis what has happened previously and the original explanation of clear and obvious (and I could be wrong on this), but it seems like the penalty has already been given, the subjective part has been decided already and VAR us used for a matter of fact i.e. was there any contact? And the only way the decision is overturned is if the answer is no. That for me is what the ref was doing at the screen, as soon as he sees contact he has confirmed that he has made the 'right' decision. The only decisions of this kind that I can think of being overturned are the ones with no contact, the ones with minimal contact are still given.

The problem with this system is clearly there is a huge confirmation bias because in the above case contact = penalty (assuming no other infringement). But this is not the case if the on field official doesn't give the penalty. The bar for the decision to be changed is much higher, if the on field official yesterday hadn't given the penalty I don't think VAR overturns the no pen call either. An example being Salah plays the ball past someone, runs into them and goes down, there is contact but the ref decides no pen VAR doesn't step in. The knock the ball past someone and run into them is effectively what happened yesterday with the pen and last week with the freekick for Leicester.

You were still watching after the penalty was confirmed?
              Football without Origi is nothing

I don't know if anyone was unfortunate enough to catch match of the day, but Danny Murphy's view on the penalty as always was worth listening too Essentially said that he thought that it was a mistake as Calvert Lewin had run into TAA's head, until he saw the replays and TAA lifts his leg and trips him up therefore it's a clear penalty

I'm usually the same . I only saw it because the baby had just fallen asleep on me and I couldn't reach the remote control and didn't dare move

Do you know what hurts the most about yesterday? The complete lack of justice and karma from the game earlier in the season. All things equal, we should have come out and smashed them 4 nil.

I just think we need to bide our time now. Patience is key. And then we will strike from the shadows!

And I want to win it and finish outside the top four. Everton then come fourth and us wining the CL gets them bumped out of it.

Or if we manage to come fourth, ten I want Everton to finish in the final Europa spot and then an English team that finishes outside the Europa spots in the league, like Arsenal, win that cup and Everton get bumped out.

We have to get past Leipzig first, and who would put good money on us defending a 2 goal lead at anfield at the moment?

Fortunately we have to play at a neutral venue don’t we?

But yeah, without Fabinho back and fit for the rest of the season we are in trouble.
