He’s not as slow as people make him out to be as evidenced by some of his play against Brighton. Acceleration is slow, over first few yards but he’s quick enough when he gets going. Similar to Firmino in that sense.

Thought that was why we got him? To play in that false nine or AM slot and also to be a back up for wide left. Was under the impression that he played more for PSV as an attacking midfielder than as an out and out winger
Edit: Just looked at PSV's stats and average positions/heat maps and it seems he played as a left sided AM most of the time for them. Not quite out wide enough to be a winger or wide forward and with the PSV left back overlapping to provide width.
They seemed to go with a 4231 with the 3 in that being a RAM, CAM and LAM.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Saw a good match highlights v Brighton thing on twitter. There were some signs of encouragement. Though from what i saw Elliot was miles offside on that chance where it looked like he should have scored from a decent Gakpo through ball. We need more from him sadly. He could not have joined at a worse time - nowhere to hide instantly.Modifying post.

I saw an interview sometime ago, where he said he modeled himself a bit after Henry, tall winger, cutting in from the left. But I can see the appeal in turning him into a Bobbyesque player.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostThought that was why we got him? His stats and heat maps for PSV this season suggest he may well be that sort of player. 13 goals and 14 assists for PSV certainly suggests he was as much a creator as he was a finisher for them this season.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostI saw an interview sometime ago, where he said he modeled himself a bit after Henry, tall winger, cutting in from the left. I suppose in some ways the question is do we need a Bobby type player if we see Darwin as the future for our central attacking role (once all attacking players are back).
Say we had Salah, Diaz, Jota, Darwin, Bobby, Gakpo and Elliot all fit rigtht now.
It is difficult to see anything other than a Diaz - Darwin - Salah starting trio and probably no Bobby or Gakpo starting at the same time as an AM.
Depth wise it does look nice though.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

He has been ok and has shown flashes of quality be it making nice runs, taking up good positions, getting shots away, linking play and so on. Very much strikes me as the sort of guy that makes things click and go smoothly when there is movement around him, much like Firmino, but looks avaerage when the team/machine around him is faltering, again much like Firmino.
Sort of the grease on the moving cogs rather than being a cog. The cogs get covered in rust then no amount of grease gets them moving well again.
However I think you hit the nail on the head with the comment about what sort of team he has come into.
It is a team that is misfiring, probably low on confidence, with a lot of players not making or looking for runs so a player that looks like being good at making sure movement is constant suddely stalls when there is no movement to work with.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Similar gangly frame, very similar way of passing/playing a ball, sticks his hands out in a similar manner, turns like him and those long leggy strides that makes it look like a baby giraffe is dribbling a ball.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
