This situation makes me feel like they missed one key criteria in a new manager. They’ve been through a challenging period and managed to get through.

I’ll still back Slot right now but he really needs to show something. It feels like he’s making minimal changes and hoping it suddenly works. He’s tried to bring some of last seasons tactics back but the options for that aren’t all there and I’m not sure if it will work again with the changes to the squad.

He deserves until the end of the season as a minimum. We are not that club.

I think buzzos comment about slot not trusting the squad is the death of slot. He got away with it last season but not anymore.

Conversely look at the tune Klopp got out of our Carling cup win or the Barcelona win against the odds missing many first teamers.

Posted in the match thread as well, this is pretty damming. I understand bedding it time etc but we had a full pre season and we look clueless, last season he had like two weeks with the squad and made some subtle adjustments and we were great.

We actually broke the Warchest open and then we waste it FFS, it’s very concerning and Hughes is on the hook as well. The players we bought don’t seem to suit what we need…., a bit **** show right now

Well he did trust the squad in the league cup and basically threw away our participation in that so we'd be fit for this game, then we fluffed that.

If slot was all in on the signings then he probably has to go sooner rather than later because he clearly has **** all idea how to use them, or he is failing to get them up to speed, but either way, we've emptied the bank account to buy square pegs for round holes. If it was more Edwards, Hughes, whoever, then he gets a bit more leeway, but he needs to spend that changing his approach to make it work.

Kerkez signing creates more questions than answers.
He looked great at Bournemouth and a guy who could enhance the squad.
But then we dont play to his strengths... he wants to bomb down the wing and overlap, but he's only done it a couple of times due to our ctop start build up.

Makes you wonder if there is a joined up plan.

He'll be jettisoned if he doesn't make the CL next season. The recruitment dept will also have to do some soul-searching if that's the case; I can't see this being a one-man effort.

Exactly the same for Frimpong. And wirtz, comes from a different system and excelled in a position we don't have.

The problem is if current form continues there isn’t going to be any European football next season. Did those two wins signal a potential turnaround or just a couple of good performances and now it’s back to normal.

I’m not one for a rash sacking and like the way the club backs the managers and gives them time. But if the team is way off of European places in the second half of the season he’ll be under even more pressure. Can the club afford to miss out on the champions league or Europa league football for a season?

Fair enough if the intent was to play like we did a few years ago, with fullbacks operating more like wingers at times; but that doesn't seem to be the case looking at how the team plays.

I was really excited about Wirtz albeit confused as to why we bought him

If the intent is to play with a CAM and have our 2x fullbacks play higher up then perhaps this current decline is because we're changing the system so much?
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Slot may be having an Amorim moment, sticking to a "system" and reluctant to use the players he has in their best positions.

Bit of truth in this I reckon.

Make your system fit your players and not the other way around.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Basically your typical Dutch manager. Stubborn and unwilling to break from their system.

It's going to cost him his job here.

When you can sit here and honestly say only a handful of players have performed this season to the levels you’d expect it’s not the players but the manager and his system.

It’s definitely a little from column a, and a little from column b. With a little from column c (processing the death of a much loved team mate).
