I’d be pretty devastated if we don’t see it through now, expectations were top 4, but now especially with city out of the picture, to lose it would be unpalatable. We need to get back to the form we had at the beginning of the season. I think Saturday will tell us a lot against Brentford, if we struggle here we could be in big trouble.

It would be disappointing for sure, given the position we are in and the fact that City are in freefall this seasonOriginally posted by kingfunk View PostI’d be pretty devastated if we don’t see it through now, expectations were top 4, but now especially with city out of the picture, to lose it would be unpalatable. We only are two points better off than at the same point last season, actually, it just looks like no one this season looks capable of peeling off a run of 5-7 wins in a row to ease away from the pack
However, Arsenal really are on the edge here, despite their win last night. If we can just win the next 2-3 games, even if performances are still ropey, then I reckon there's a good chance they will drop points in this period (given their injuries and lack of ability to rotate), in which case it's almost over.
If we keep dropping points and keep them in the race, their fixtures turn from early Feb, by which time they will get some bodies back / new signings, and suddenly it's a dogfight in which they have momentum and we have arguably the hardest run in

If we draw at the weekend then we will be on the exact same amount of points after 21 games as we were last season so we are holding pretty steady to be fair despite a new manager and a lot of injuries already this season
Last season after 21 games it was
Liverpool 48 points
Man City 46 points
Arsenal 43 points
Villa 43 points
And in 9th and 10th place
Chelsea 31 points
Newcastle 29 points
This season
Liverpool (20 games) 47 points
Arsenal (21 games) 43 points
Forest (21 games) 41 points
Newcastle (21 games) 38 points
Chelsea (21 games) 37 points
City (21 games) 35 points
So last season the team on top (was us again) has more or less the same points as at the same stage last season and the team in sixth place ( was West Ham last season) is on 35 points again. Slight dip in the point tallies per position but that is probably off set by the lower half of the top ten having taken more points that the teams in that position did last season.
Think a dog fight is on the cards no matter what, though our game in hand may well be a straw that breaks a few backs should we win it.Last edited by Doc_Piptorious; 16-01-25, 02:49 PM.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Originally posted by Sus View PostHmm I’m not sure I fully agree with that. They looked sharp yesterday against an underpowered, naive Spurs side who gave them plenty of space and lots of errors
In other games they have looked incredibly laboured on the ball, with far less variety in terms of their passing than us or City for example. They seem to have a Plan A which is to work a team out of shape on the right and look for a pullback but not much of a plan B or C
They didn’t look sharp yesterday at all. They deserved the win but they weren’t banging the door down. They heavily rely on set pieces I don’t think their play in possession is all that. And it’s definitely even less effective without Saka.Modifying post.

Spurs looked more like Southampton, and their keeper was total ****e. Why didn't this version of Spurs turn up in the League Cup?Originally posted by Buzzo View Post
