My only worry with Lucas is that we still have both our fullbacks looking to push forward and he doesn't have the pace/mobility to fight fires in the Mascherano style. The start of the move for Leicesters goal (IIRC) came through him being not quite in position to cover the left fullback.
Yeah, it leaves us exposed with both full backs pushing that far up the pitch. I remember when Barcelona had Abidal playing left back but he would form part of a defensive 3 with the other two centre backs when defending and Alves would be somewhere far up the wing. Seems like we don't have enough bodies back when we lose the ball high up the pitch. Maybe Flanagan will give a better balance to the team when he is back as he is a more defensive minded player.

Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has revealed he would be interested in signing Lucas Leiva if Liverpool were keen on selling the Brazilian midfielder.

'Lucas is a great player but he is a Liverpool player and it will be hard to get him,' said Mancini. 'It certainly would be useful to us as he could help our youngsters grow.'

The Brazilian star has started in six Premier League games for Liverpool and is under contract with the Reds until June 2017.

i love the way he peels the skin off some ****s ankles and then turns and gives the ref an impish little grin and somehow walks away without a booking [most of the time]

No worries Roberto. Send Medel and Kovacic our way, and in return we will send Lucas and Allen your way.

And whilst we are in such a generous mood, send Ranocchia as well, and we will send you a £20m centre back in his place.

I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Can we not send Gerrard and Allen instead?

Usually after passing straight to them in a dangerous position so its essential that he gives away a foul to stop an almost certain goal.

He's crucial to the way we play now.

A few months ago I was one of many who said to sell him, but he is our only true DM and is much more effective than Gerrard when he's there. He makes more interceptions, is much better with defensive positioning - it's very rare he gets dribbled past unlike Stevie.

on the radio commentary it said he kept giving the ball away, especially the last 10, true?

It's no coincidence that every one of our best performances this year, he's been playing (bar Spurs).

Individually he hasn't exactly been outstanding, he's certainly far from the level he once was, but we're a much better team with him in the side.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Exactly mate. The defence gets so much more protection with Lucas in front of them. He hasn't been the player he was like you said but his level has been improving game by game.

When I see our team sheet now he's the first name I look out for - feel more assured knowing he's playing.

He hit 2 of his 9 unsuccessful passes in injury time. 90% success rate overall, made more passes than anyone else in the team and the highest accuracy of any of our midfielders.

                            According to Opta of course.

He pushed up in the second half (and was quite effective) when we were chasing the game - taking more risks.

I didn't think we needed Lucas in front of a back three - but he played really well (I think he's played well all season - probably our best/most consistent midfielder). IMO - it would be a big mistake to sell him (in January).
                              Another MASSIVE game

That's why I was asking. Thanks.

I personally think he's extremely average but like has been said, he's the only recognised defensive midfielder and so needs to play until we replace with someone more dynamic.
