Ergo.......stories come out about how he'd be unwilling to even accept 180k a week if it were offered, coming straight off a couple of months of 150k being demanded etc etc.
Club being smart with the media.
Kind of paints a picture that the club were willing to go pay reasonable and beyond for a player of his standing, but the player and his advisors were chasing big wads of sweaty, unreasonable cash.
Club wins with the fanbase when he ****s off.

Really? I wouldn't be, Sterling can reach heights that Walcott never will and the latter has serious injury problems.....Originally posted by RedRum View PostWould be happy if Arsenal were willing to offer Walcott and some money for him, then we would end up with the better deal...maybe...Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

Wouldn't mind Walcott but he's more injury prone than Sturridge. If that's even possible.
Not sure Arsenal would want to pay him 150k-200k anyway as they're pretty well run too. Just because they finally have a proper budget doesn't turn them into a plastic club overnight. They've already got Ox, Gnarby, etc, on their books. They'd have the same players' revolt problem as we'd have with our youngsters. One tit for another.

Nail on head. Its just another means of gossip perpetuated by the sporting equivalents of Hello magazine. Look at Sky Sports News - what other TV channel devotes so much of its time to idle speculation? It might as well be TeamTalkTV.Originally posted by Pablo View PostAll kinds of talk, and leaks going on isn't there?
Seems to be from all sides too, his agent, us, everyone is trying to control the media.
Football these days is so polluted with this nonsense that it's no wonder that loads of us can't be arsed with it anymore.

If we can get the right deal for the club, then we take the cash and go again.
If we met his weekly wage demands then i can see the guy asking for a shorter contract. We could end up like United a few years ago with Ronaldo - having to put up with this ****e every summer.
If it is Man City that are willing to sign him and pay him all that money, then we should bend them over when it comes to transfer fee negotiations. Do to them what the likes of Southampton, Aston Villa and Newcastle have done to us in the last few seasons. Make them pay something like £65m and stick to it. Southampton did it with Lovren perfectly last season. Basically say to Sterling, "we are happy to let you rot and barely kick a ball over the next 2 seasons..... you are likely to not play in the Euros because you won't have been in your club team" and say the same to Man City - "pay up or shut up"..... we would get the deal then. To be honest if we were interested in someone like Dzeko or Jovetic then we would probably get them thrown in easily enough as well.....
We then spend the cash on someone like Lacazette, Depay or Pedro and start again without him......
Sterling is good but he's not worth lfc bending over for. He's no Suarez....

How else? An England get together? Whilst out socialising with any players? It has always gone on and will always go on. Its almost impossible to prove any wrong doing.Originally posted by meffin View PostSurely that means he's been tapped up and said club would be liable to pay us compo like we did with Zenden. How else can he have had his head turned without speaking to another club.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

law of averages?Originally posted by meffin View PostHow the **** did we get done for it then?
I think there is clearly a difference between John Terry having a word in Sterling's ear and saying come join us, the moneys great, the girls are great, the coach is great etc and a Chelsea official offering sterling a deal before speaking to us. Just one example.

I wonder who turned his head and also if we could maybe have tied his contract up sooner.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostJack Pitt-Brooke in the Independent reckons Sterling's head has been turned and there is an acceptance at Liverpool that he will go.
Still he has two years left in the summer and we'll hopefully get something for him, I really doubt it'll be best for his personal improvement to move on though.
Also he seems like a very high maintenence person and I don't have the patience for it any more. Would prefer him to stay but not end of the world if he goes.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
