He was always known as the 'indie footballer', a rare footballer who read NME/Melody Maker and had decent taste. He's also known as a total piss head so your post makes absolutely perfect sense.

I remember a story of someone writing to him when he was at Chelsea, asking for his autograph. The more iconic players used to have stock photos ready, like the Panini type stickers, which they would sign and send off to the fans.

If you look at his career it's pretty difficult to argue otherwise. It's an absolute fact Torres played by far his best football under Rafa. Even last season which seemingly everyone dismisses as **** he scored 18 goals in 20 starts, which is phenomenal.
