Who do we have that is massively better?
Skrtel is a liability (some of the time) and if Rodgers rated him he's have been made VC ahead of Henderson.
Henderson maybe isn't ready for it yet, again if he was nailed on it would already have been announced.
Sakho? not a regular (although imo should be 1st choice CB) and English is his 2nd language.
Lallana? Was captain at Southampton but struggled for form and fitness last season, can't just make him captain.
Lucas? Every chance he'll be sold

So genuinely who else is there? Milner would be absolutely perfect for it in my opinion.

Would have no problem with an outside player coming in and getting the armband if he has form that suggests he would be the right man for the job and if our own options internally were not that hot.

Don't know if Milner has been that sort of player for City, but I do think that our current options are not so good. If I knew for sure that Sakho's english was up to scratch then I might have him in the role (He seems very vocal when playing for France and noticed him directing players quite a bit for us during the season just gone), but don't think many of our longer term players would make for good captains. Maybe a case could be made for Lucas but have a feeling he is gone this summer.

Wouldn't have Sakho as Captain, far too injury prone and I really don't rate him. For me it has to be Skrtel out the current crop, if we get Milner and he's our BIG signing, then I'd definitely take him as Captain.

Not really impressed with Hendo, he's OK nothing more, Lucas (injured all the time).

I think Milner will be a good signing and a great addition to the squad, especially for free.

Most reports suggest his move hinges on playing time in central midfield which we can probably offer more of than both City and Arsenal. Still some work to do though.

Apparently Valencia and Napoli are also interested.

I know quite a few and every single one feels the same mate. Manager wants him to stay, the club want him to stay, the fans who watch him every week do....yet some of ours think he's not good enough.

I guess it's down to the (mostly) underwhelming history of our free transfers. For every Markus Babbel there's Joe Cole, Andriy Voronin, Milan Jovanovic, Phillip Degen, Kolo Toure.... Did I miss anyone?

Also Milner has had limited playing time in the middle, where we'll probably need him. So if we're spending the first 3 months helping him re-learn that role we're pretty much still fcked. On the right side of a midfield though I admit he has some qualities.

I think he will be a very good player for Arsenal. Same way he was for City. his industry and intelligence is a perfect foil for some of the talented attacking players they have. Reminds me of Dirk Kuyt in some aspect.

Not sure he will flourish in our setup which is less talented compared to Arsenal and City from an attacking perspective.
