He would have been much better served saying nothing at all rather than open his mouth and spout that muck.

Going down the Wijnaldum route of making excuses and having pops shortly after leaving Liverpool is going to do him no favours at all.



As Rich said, great servant to the club and I would add a great captain, but that interview shows a serious lack of character and some seriously bad judgement.

Nobody is playing in that Saudi league without the ludicrous wages they’re being offered to go there, he can spin it however he likes but going there was all about the money.

Also, who knows what is happening in the background. Could he be a voice in the dressing room trying to educate his fellow players, could he be donating money to promoteLGBT causes around the world? We are assuming he has sold out all his principles (or supposed principles) to chase the money, but there could be more to it.

Or he's just a money grabbing ****.
