I've done jobs that I've ended up not getting paid for and it boils your piss when it happens..working for 6 months for nothing must be excruciatingly annoying

**** him, never really liked him anyway. He’d obviously had all the media training but but came across as insincere to me. This affair proved it. Two or three outstanding seasons out of 12, I’m comfortable with his tarnished reputation tbh.

He's ****ed up beyond belief and probably doesn't deserve any sympathy, but I'm surprised at the vitriol unleashed at him here and on Twitter. Most fans got what they wanted - his departure - and I don't see why what happens after that should be cause for delight, celebration or whatever. He's ****ed up, but surely given he lifted everything there is to win as LFC captain ought to have earned him a bit of respect, regardless of what happened afterwards. Chosen Captain by one of the most lauded managers we've ever had. Lead the team to lift evert major honour, and on two of the most monumental seasons ever recorded in the histotry of English Football.

Yes, he was on the wane by the end, and yes he ****ed up with his PR around going to Saudi. But at the end of the day he is a 30 year old millionaire, scrutiny is heavy and the onliine admonishment is sever.

But if we are going to happily shot all over the legacy of a player who achieved so much with us, what sort of fanbase does that make us?

Im confused. He would rather receive nothing so he doesnt have to pay tax rather than be paid and lose 40% to the taxman?

I don't know what the truth is but the suggestion above (or in linked articles) was that he couldn't come back to England at the moment as he would be UK tax resident so would have to pay tax on any money he paid, his choice of clubs was supposedly influenced by this. I was flippantly making the comment that if he hadn't been paid (and wasn't going to be paid) for his time in Saudi then this wouldn't be a problem he'd have to worry about.

I suspect the reality is that he will be paid at some point and will have to pay tax on his Saudi money wherever he ends up going next.

Just checked back my posts in this thread and luckily have been very gracious

It's sad more than anything that his decision to go there was so ill advised. It could've only been about money, and that's the one thing he's got plenty of already. I've joked about Sunderland (the town) but his wealth will really go a long way there. He could've gone anywhere in Europe without a soul moaning and would then have retained his legacy.

I expect he'll get a warm welcome back at Anfield one day, hopefully, but he'll not be lauded for his achievements or a poster boy for succeeding with limited ability as he should be

Would he really be that though?

Yes he was not as silky skilled as some players, was not as creative as others and so on, but then again that was not his function within the team.

But he did bring the sort of drive, workrate and determination that most others could not match and it was not like being a hard worker was all he had in his locker as a player. He was a good midfielder that also had some exceptional physical attributes.

He brought a lot of the less flashy but equally essential stuff to the team.

Guys like him and Wijnaldum at their peaks were the glue that kept things held together and without high level players of that ilk doing the less glamourous stuff our attackers would have been less busy and our defender would have been busier.


Think with Henderson it is pretty simple. We have the player and we have the man. They can of course be judged individually but I think it would be churlish to allow one to totally colour how the other is viewed.


For me he has shown himself to be full of **** away from the pitch and I found his mealy mouthed excuses with regards to LGBGT to be a snap shot of his character, however that changes nothing in relation to how he was as a player and as a club captain when he was in his prime with us.

Exactly. Sounds to me like he is just trying to use the media again to paint what he thinks is a more positive image.


Give it six months or so of living away from Saudi and he will be bleating on about human rights again whilst searching down the back of a drawer for his rainbow laces.
