Imagine questions like this from English media
Why did you clip the ball to the back post Jordan, why didn’t you go with your runner Jordan

Update it’s a 97th minute Fergie Time equaliser for Ajax. The 1st goal was a penalty, I wonder if Hendo took the ball in protection mode or if he’s given that away nowOriginally posted by SB View PostJordan’s return to European competition could be short lived. His Ajax side are down 2-0 at home to the mighty Bodo/Glimt in the 1st leg of the Europa Conference league.
Hold the fort they’ve got one back in the 91st min & a Bodo player sent off.

Originally posted by Kenneth View PostHe was but isn’t. The game isn’t as quick in Holland but the players are and he’ll get rinsed by younger midfielders running passes him. I think his benefit to Ajax is more from a leadership and dressing room perspective, something that their current situation suggests they’re missing.

For stretches we were, yes.Originally posted by Buzzo View Post1 point and one win from delivering the most successful season from any team in the history of English football, and we were carrying our captain.
I’ve not given my opinion to be honest, I’m just giving stats and scoffing at yours
And saying the Henderson 'excelled' in 2021/22 is you giving your opinion. And I'm scoffing at that

at your opinion too.
I’ve nothing against Henderson nor any reason to scapegoat him.
And yes we can point to other reasons too. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t true that Henderson was largely poor in 2021/22.

I think there were multiple reasons we dropped points. I don’t think Hendo carries the blame for any of them, he’s always been a convenient scapegoat.

Originally posted by Mark79 View PostIt’s not conformation bias, it’s objective judgement. It was also stated in the aftermath of these respective performances, so it’s not hindsight or revisionism either. We repeatedly blew the our lead to Brentford. We blew 2 goal leads to Brighton and Chelsea. Our midfield was poor off the ball in all these games (and others) and Henderson’s performance was a standout issue.
Yes we had an outstanding season overall, but we can still point to reasons that we dropped points that contributed to missing out on the title.
Henderson, particularly in the first half of the that season, struggled. He certainly didn’t excel.

We got 92 points and only lost 2 games that season, he played in most of them (35 out of 38). We scored 94 goals in the League and only let in 26, what, despite him?
We also got to the CL final with him playing most games and should have won the final.
Oh, and he lifted the FA Cup and the League cup. Somehow.
I reckon he did alright.

Given that Ajax don’t ever buy household names, it’s not that hard to believe.
Yeh my mistake. Fair point

This is confirmation bias.Originally posted by Mark79 View PostHendo didn’t excel in the 2021/22 season. He was costly for us, especially off the ball. Thinking games against Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, City.
I don’t blame him though. Ultimately that falls with Klopp for not replacing him as starter sooner.

We also got to the CL final with him playing most games and should have won the final. Henderson played in 12 games. Lots of class players will never play in a CL final.
Oh, and he lifted the FA Cup and the League cup. Hendo played 5 games in each. Somehow we one both with him playing.
I reckon he did alright.Last edited by Buzzo; 22-01-24, 12:25 AM.
