Not sure if I agree with giving it to Milner (not that it means anything). Think Skrtel should already feel a bit aggrieved being overlooked for Henderson, but being overlooked for somebody who's never played for the club and isn't necessarily an inspirational leader is a wee bit insulting.

I wonder if his contract negotiations are influencing the decision.

Just cos he's there a while shouldn't entitle him to captaincy either. He should be first out the door when we sign a proper right sided centre back so I wouldn't be going making him captain or vice captain. We don't have any natural leaders so not much choice in going with the "experience and winning mentality" approach and Milner has both.

Then again we made Agger vice and sold him the following summer so if we did that with Skrtel I could live with it

No, but it should count for something. Maybe if we were signing a Roy Keane or John Terry type (a cunt then ) you could make a case or promoting them straight away, but Milner doesn't strike me as an influential leader type, even if I believe he could be as capable as Henderson.

Skrtel on the other hand, despite the question marks over his footballing ability, has a bit more presence, is more vocal and has experience captaining his country. At the end of the day, it's a nothing role that doesn't mean much, so I'd rather nearly give it to someone to deserves it more, over someone who may or may not be a better Capatain and I'm sure anyone who has stayed loyal to the club for so long may feel they deserve to be in with a shout.

Barrett said Milner and Skrtel are in contention for vice-captain but so are Lucas and Sakho. Sakho would be my first choice.

Stevie was never the shouty vocal type. He lead by example. Given the lack of shouty vocal types we have we'll be looking for another one like that. I think on the pitch the captain has a role to play, getting in the refs ear all game for a start which is something I think we've lacked, especially since Carra left. Terry and Keane were great at that. Captain probably does a fair bit around the club outside of match days too, organising the social gatherings, getting a cake for Kolo on his birthday in case kicking off over that runs in the family, that sort of stuff.

Skrtel and Sakho can't organise a defence, let alone a team
                Another MASSIVE game

Yes and I'd imagine Milner as a similar type of captain, lead by example, except the difference is that despite being a good player, he's not fit to lace Gerrard's boots and doesn't have the ability to inspire a team like Gerrard did.

And we're talking about vice captain here, he'll be lucky to have the armband for more than 5 matches.

TBH, I couldn't care if they gave it to Mario, not sure why I keep replying.

Milner shouldn't even be in the equation, the other 3 I can't argue with
