When Lucas and Allen are out there are nobody that than go straight in CM. Players like Agger and Toure has been discussed, but with the injuries on the WB we need to cover those positions.
If there was a team we could start without SG this was the one, but due to suspension and injuries It was the right decision to start with him, IMO.

Henderson may have won tackles galore yesterday but we were playing Palace, not Barcelona. The amount of space they gave us, hardly made his task a mammoth one.

He's a good player and his best position should probably be somewhere central, rather than out wide. But his dynamism means he will probably never ever cement a regular place in central midfield, maybe in his latter years.

He's a bit like a young Gerrard. He can play in a variety of positions and looks good in all of them.
      Are we winning?

On the Gerrard argument, I'd say he's a big reason why we lack control in games. When we're winning and the other team get a bit of momentum he still tries 30-40 yard passes and they get cut out A LOT by full backs and put the other team right back on the front foot. He isn't a calming influence in midfield like he should be, he's very experienced but its like he'd rather try a killer ball and it suits the team chasing the game.

Watching highlights you see the long passes that come off like the one to Sturridge that ended in a goal for Suarez but that gets tried at the wrong time too often for me, just relax us when we look under pressure.

          Except out wide IMO.

Absolutely. I think Rodgers will have a word but dropping Gerrard could put Brendans own position at risk. No player is bigger than the club. Except the ones that might be.

I think it would rock the boat to drop Gerrard after the team has started the season so well. I just do not see Gerrards position as being at risk....he still is the reference point for this club and I am sure his presence in the team has a positive psychological effect on the team.

Gerrard's position shouldn't be at risk. The guy is a leader. He probably inspires a load of players around him, Henderson included just by being on the pitch.

it looks like the 3-5-2 suits us at the moment, with the players we have

i think i'd like to see something like this in tougher games

                      ---------cb------cb--------cb

                      johnson-------------------------enrique

                      ----------lucas-----henderson---------
                      -----------------gerrard--------------

                      --------------suarez-----sturridge

if it's tight or losing - we then have the option to bring on coutinho/moses to change it up

                      home or easier games

play gerrard alongside henderson, drop lucas for coutinho

Noticed at the game that he absolutely bollocked Enrique after Palace scored. Can only assume it's because he should have been on the post (?) but it was great to see Henderson dishing it out He's really playing like he's confident and confident in what he and others should be doing on the pitch. Which is credit to Rodgers i'd say

You'll have trouble trying to convince someone on here of that.
