Actually its something I have heard a number of times by several european journalists and I agree with them, its a very English obsession, on the continent its not held with the same reverence. It starts with the National team every 2 years and it works it way down to the Lg and the focus on the so called big teams.

With the exception of maybe barca there is just no evidence to support it, from present day personalities like Lahm and Casillas, Totti, and going back a bit to Beckenbauer, Maldini, Frank de Boer, Hierro etc. There is no difference, even if we accept England has an obsession with captains, which I think is a dodgy premise in the first place.

Fair enough, I think there is something to it. I like Jordan as captain, he has always risen to captain level in nearly every team he has played in, at various national levels with the exception of the senior team. That does not happen by accident. The lad has something about him, in a decent team he has shown to be more than able to wear the armband

I like Hendo but he hasn't yet become a presence enough, hopefully he grows into the role & can do great things for us. Having a strong leader as captain is absolutely vital in any side.

Captain in football means next to **** all. Not like cricket where they have a massive input into the game in terms of tactics etc.
