I think VVD will be captain next season though depending on how he does the rest of the season.
I think VVD looks like a captain but I don't think that you can give hime the armband as soon as he comes in. I think we will carry on as we are for now and change in the summerThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yep.Originally posted by Rich View PostWe need to move on from this fixation over the armband, it means very, very little in today's game.
VVD was barking orders in his first game, doesn't need the armband to do that.
Gerrard took the armband from Sammi after the season started. So what.Oh I don't know.

I totally disagree with that. I'm sure it made a difference that potential signings turned up to be greeted by the manager and Steven Gerrard rather than a gimp like Stewart Downing. The opposition captain facing off with Alberto Moreno for the coin toss, players feeling pressure to work as hard as their leader Mario Balotelli in training etc. Gerrard set the tone on the pitch, and it was with a certain menace. And then there's being the face of the club at charity and corporate situations. Jordan who? The club captain is an important role, as is the leader in any group. Maybe more off the pitch than on it but it means as much as it ever has if you have the right person doing it.Originally posted by Rich View PostWe need to move on from this fixation over the armband, it means very, very little in today's game.

I guess you've got a point in that the role of captain is more ceremonial, ambassadorial and commercial than anything else on the pitch though.Oh I don't know.

He also had a penchant for alcopops.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostI think we has, he was scaring the **** out of opposition players because a) he was so good, and b) he had a habit of high, late and two footed tackles. Maybe that's what Henderson needs to work on, recklessness.
Oh I don't know.

Yeah its pretty obvious is doesn't mean much in his teams.... hence when we fold we fold... no leader to give people slap around the chops.Originally posted by labourRed View PostIt'd be a real smack in the face to take the armband off midseason.
