People are dying in the UK. The NHS is suffering from a lack of staff and equipment due to a decade of underfunding. Government's answer - make highly paid Premier League footballers the story. People will fall for it.

Not for 1 second disputing that, just disputing the comment that this makes a guy paid more than 2 nurses annual salary per week some kind of hero.Originally posted by Rigadon View PostPeople are dying in the UK. So it's his responsibility to pay NHS workers? If he pays his taxes then he has the right to blast the Government. Was muß, das muß.

A 30% pay cut for 4 months equals 10% over a year. It won't crumple them to do this and for their wages to directly pay staff at clubs who face being furloughed. This is turn takes a small amount of pressure off the government which in turn strengthens what they have available to give to the NHS.
With wealth comes power and with power comes responsibility

I think that the problem comes from a lot of footballers being relying on advisors for various things, they presumably have financial advisors, agents, the PFA all offering input, many of these advisors (agents in particular) will have their own agendas.Originally posted by Norbs View PostA 30% pay cut for 4 months equals 10% over a year. I agree about the footballers being easy targets there are a lot of other independently wealthy people who could equally contribute but aren't coming in for the same criticism, the cynical side of me thinks that might be because these others have more political influence. Putting attention on footballers is just taking attention away from where it is needed.Originally posted by Rigadon View PostBut this should not be a story about footballers’ salaries. Why footballers? Easy target. The art of deflection. Suckers have fallen for it. Gives the government breathing space. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Ok, look at it differently. Taking Germany as an example, no CEO can earn more than 10x what the lowest paid employee gets. I bet this doesn't apply in football, so football clubs as organisations don't fall within the same rules. Taking the PL on it's own, they can absolutely afford not to have to go to the state with a begging bowl for some staff while carrying on to pay others £2million a year. It stinks. Either furlough all your staff or none at all. I'd love to see the footballers be given the choice to be capped at £2500 a month or sacrifice 10% of their yearly salary to support their colleagues. Wayne Rooney would shut the **** up then, I betOriginally posted by Rigadon View PostBut this should not be a story about footballers’ salaries. Why footballers? Easy target. The art of deflection. And yes, the same model should be adopted throughout the entire workforce of this country. 30% of unfurloughed earners over £150k to alleviate the pressure on the government. We're in this together apparentlyLast edited by Norbs; 05-04-20, 12:36 PM.

I'm not ok with PG but just said he was entitled to furlough his staff, which he is. I'd also wager that he doesn't employ 30 people on salaries between £3m and £15m a year, plus many more on £1m+. I'm almost certain too that he employs a vast many more people than LFC does.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI can't see how you have a different opinion on this than you did the other day when I mentioned Phillip Green Norbs?
A wealthy individual abusing furlough, but you were 'ok' (or you understood the workers might not get paid\laid off) with that
Happy to be corrected, but you can't furlough only part of your workforce can you?

But they cannot in anyway be involved in business activities on any level for the three months.
My wife has not been furloughed but her team have been. If PG is entitled to furlough his staff then so are LFC. It doesn’t sit well with me with either doing it.
I’ll not boycott or anything though. If anything this period has shown to me what an amazing life distraction watching sport is.Modifying post.
