His tackling and interception stats have generally been pretty mediocre through his career, I don't see that as a strength of his at all. I definitely think he could develop into the role if that decision were to be made, but I don't there's much to suggest he is head and shoulders above other options at the moment, which is what your comment suggests.Like blood on iron

I don't think he's **** just for the record, but he'll never be a regular starter IMO he's simply too average in every department, perhaps one day he'll be a reliable bench warmer but if this club has any aspirations of getting back into the CL then players of Henderson's calibre simply cannot be starting league games.Originally posted by el matador View Postsorry mate i dont want to come across badly.
i think hes been hard done by and people like you, mattshark and a few others reckon he's ****. thats fine.

A lot of short memories around here it seems, Jordan's overall form last season was among the worst I've ever seen from a Liverpool player and before people use the out of position excuse he got plenty of opportunities last season to play in the middle and without exception was truly, utterly ****e, a totally ineffective, non entity.
I'm not writing Jordan off btw because I think that he could potentially one day be a respectable bench warmer but the amount of excitement on here after a good showing against the formiddable Young Boys is farcical.
Toward the end of the season (which coincided with run that got Kenny sacked) Henderson was playing centre midfield.
Yes he didn't have Lucas to babysit him, but he didn't have Lucas at Sunderland either. We come not to play.

but who's a more like for like replacement for our defensive mid lucas - is it shelvey or is it henderson.
at the moment he;s playing allen there but allen against doesnt have the strength nor the discipline to play there. he chases the ball to get possession back asap and keep up on top of the opposition and he;s a bloody good player.
but is he a defensive pivot - i dont think so. whereas henderson can play there just like he did on thursday night and he did it really well.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

I don't think it's impossible he'll develop into a regular by any means.Originally posted by ~LFCHistory~ View PostI don't think he's **** just for the record, but he'll never be a regular starter IMO he's simply too average in every department, perhaps one day he'll be a reliable bench warmer but if this club has any aspirations of getting back into the CL then players of Henderson's calibre simply cannot be starting league games.
His ability to pick out the right passes and execute them well are good - key things for anyone wanting to play in a team with this ethic. His work rate and ability to press are also tremendous. He needs to work on his courage with ball at feet and his ability to win the ball. If he improves those areas I think he'll be a very handy player for us.Like blood on iron

Henderson was played in the defensive role last season and he didn't do it very well, Allen is much better at the role.Originally posted by el matador View Postok mate.

You see him starting ahead of Shelvey, Allen, Lucas, Suso and Sahin if we buy him ??Originally posted by Red_Polo View PostI don't think it's impossible he'll develop into a regular by any means.

thats just it mate. he played a handful of games in midfield towards the end of the season and he was really good. he was absolutely dog **** when kenny played him right hand side of midfield but not when he played centrally.Originally posted by Imy View PostHenderson was played in the defensive role last season and he didn't do it very well, Allen is much better at the role.

the thing about henderson is that he's very good at a lot of things like technically he's very good, he's very fit and he sees the passes very well. he's tactically astute and if you look at mostars compilation he plays an over the shoulder pass to downing about twenty seconds in which isnt an easy skill to accomplish but it shows his range of passing too. he will play to instructions and he;s disciplined. thats really all you can ask for in a central midfield type player.
the old school way of thinking was the midfielders had to get stuck in and all this box to box bollocks. thats all gone but they still need to be able to compete and then use the ball well which he does.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

In absence of Lucas, aside from shifting Allen back, nobody is particularly suited to step in. Neither Hendo nor Shelvey are defensively minded ball winners. Henderson has played that role well on one occasion against weak opposition, but what made his performance impressive is what he did with the ball more than without it. It's enough to suggest we should be trying him in that role again - but to say he should be a guaranteed starter for us is jumping the gun IMO.Originally posted by el matador View Postok mate.
