This is one way to read how he played

What I saw was Utd doubled up on him and contained him with ease, he had quite a **** game for a player with so much promise.

They doubled and trebled up on him all game. But I was noticing the times when Utd had the ball and Ibe was stood in midfield, he could have hunted down the ball no issues. However, he left the majority of the chasing to Sinclair, Ojo and the two Joe Allens behind him.

Thanks to Derby, and from what I've seen of him at Derby, he was easily the fittest player on the park. But he played at around 50-60% full capacity which only comes from strict instructions from your gaffer (or its BAU if you're Balotelli).

You honestly think he was told to take it easy in that reserve game? Not having that at all. It was a chance to impress and he didn't really take it tbh.

He is still a great prospect and will get some game time but I honestly feel he should have been left at Derby where he would have played almost every game.

Fair enough, maybe I've misread the situation. Does ring back to what Derby fans have said, he can be awesome then disinterested with no middle ground.

However, whenever I've seen him play for Derby he's never stopped running. Fit as a fiddle, or fit as a Markovic. So to see him not make any effort was strange.

Perhaps he was disillusioned...he's gone from playing week in, week out for Derby and is all of a sudden back for the u21's...essentially, maybe he was just not in the right frame of mind, and was instead having a teenage strop?

As I see it he's been involved in the one first team game that he could play in since he's been back (he's cup tied for both the Chelsea games and the Bolton game). Assuming he is to be involved in the next league game we would want to give him some game time to keep his fitness levels up. You would hope that 1) Rodgers has explained this to him and 2) he accepts this as a sensible solution.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Brendan Rodgers tips Jordon Ibe to be "a big player" for Liverpool FC

                  09:45, 2 February 2015 By Neil Jones

Brendan Rodgers believes Jordon Ibe is ready for more first-team opportunities at Liverpool.

The 19-year-old winger returned to Anfield last month after spending the first half of the season on loan at Championship high-fliers Derby County.

And though he was ineligible for the League Cup semi-final against Chelsea, and the Reds’ FA Cup campaign, he has made two promising cameos as a substitute in the league, the latest of which came in Saturday’s win over West Ham at Anfield.

Rodgers is a big admirer of the former Wycombe man, and believes Ibe will be a “big player” for the Reds in years to come.

“I think he’s ready now,” Rodgers said. “You saw what he can do in his cameo and it’s just unfortunate that he’s not available for the cups.

“But I brought him back because with the set-up of the team there are more opportunities for him to play now. He can play in maybe four positions.

“He’s diligent enough. He gets forward but he also gets back, recovers well, so there are going to be more opportunities for him.

“I think he’s going to be a big player for us because he’s a wonderful talent with his power and pace, and he will be huge for us in the coming years.”

I had forgotten he'd been on loan at Birmingham last season for 6 months. Apart from pre-season with us, he's had a year's worth of experience at two different Championship clubs.

And it shows, before those loan spells he was weally, weally waw. Good to see Brendan treating him the same way he did with Sterling. Just need a 'steady' vine and we're done.

He did well in his cameo against West Ham. Unlucky not to score too.

Would have been a great goal.

What I liked most about it is he looked completely different to what we have.

I do wonder whether having opportunities to play/develop him and Sterling will prove to be a much better move than a panic striker purchase. Certainly I think it will benefit the players in the long term.

Ibe sounds like ready made for our attacking positions so it could very well be that we saved a couple there, he might even step up to be a valuable squad player next year.

He has that skilful steamroller effect in the way he drives into space that Suarez also had (albeit to a much higher level).
