If clubs like Inter, Valencia, Schalke, Wolfsburg (VW money but not a massive wage payer nor do they go OTT in terms of transfer fees), Napoli etc can go and pick up good to very good players at times, then we should be able to do likewise.

Granted there are a number of clubs that we simply could not go head to head with in terms of money and recent prestige, but we should not be put off trying for quality players because we think one of those clubs may go after the same player. The best clubs can only buy so many players and many of them will be well stocked to start with, so there will always be a number of very good players whose choice will be to stay at their current clubs or take a step up with a move to a club like ours.

Even look at the likes of Atletico Madrid. They are a club who have only started to again pick up silverware on a regular basis in recent years, yet prior to that they still managed to make some high profile purchases and still managed to snipe a number of up and coming talent that supposedly were the targets of bigger clubs.

We are not going to get every up and comer we go for or every quality player we go for, but I would prefer to be in for every one of them we are interested in and get knocked back nine times out of ten than looking elsewhere ten time out of ten because we think a more attractive club wants the same players.

Getting knocked back nine times out of ten still means we have gotten one quality addition.
Suarez wasn't as high profile and came with a lot of history. Kenny Dalglish's name as manager was not a bad thing to have either. No disrespect to Rodgers, but I very much doubt a top talent would be persuaded to join LFC just because Brendan Rodgers was managing..especially after the way this season went.

I'm not saying don't go in for these big names, of course go in for them but only if we really are prepared to go balls out and spend big... but sure we simply can't compete financially with the the big boys. The lack of champs league is a huge negative for most players these days, unless you just pay mega money...which we don't have.

I'm not being negative mate, it just being realistic. As regards the young talents that some of the foreign teams get... it seems FA work permit restrictions also makes it very difficult to sign all these south american talent, that other clubs in different countries seem to obtain a lot easier.

As regards Benzema, Martinez, Icardi,Dybala & Lacazette etc. If we are going to go in for them in real terms we are going to be competing with Chelsea, Real Madrid, Man City, United, Arsenal and maybe Munich. I fear fans will be sorely disappointed thinking we can compete with them. Of course i would love us to grab a big name but i'm just being realistic and I don't mind us going after very effective players likes of Chicarito, Vietto, Bacca, Milner etc, who are a wee bit more off the radar than the big names. Very good players and very effective players, that we can realistically afford and whom we would be seen as a very good option for them.

For some reason there is a riches of strikers coming up this summer. From the lists already mentioned, somewhere around 10 or more decent ones. Teams like Arsenal, Barca and Munich don't need many (or indeed any).

If Real buy (e.g. Lacazette), then they will let go (Chicarito). If City buy then they will let go too (Dzeko). As its such a buyers market it will drive prices down for the likes of Benteke, say for example he forces a move out then the club won't hold on for £30m risking an unmotivated player. No one's going to succumb to £30m when you can get Chicarito for a lot less. Villa may even decide its better to get a motivated Chicarito and a little bit of cash than keeping an unmotivated Benteke as a result. Lots of permutations.

Once the cattle market dust settles we have to hope we end up with a decent goalscorer in out midst. The positive is the cattle are actually well fed and healthy this time.

Fulham paid £11m for Ross McCormack. Man Utd paid £30m for an inexperienced left back. The TV money has since gone up. We have more money and so do selling clubs in the Prem. Villa would demand a hefty fee for Benteke.

Apparently they're getting taken over soon, so to suggest he will be sold for a reasonable price is unrealistic.

We might not be able to offer the same sort of financial incentive as some of the mega rich clubs, but we are still in a position where we can pay bigger wages than the majority of clubs. We can certainly offer players at the likes of Lyon, Dortmund, Ajax, Porto, Roma etc etc more money than what they are currently on, and even if the mega money clubs do buy up the Lacazettes, Viettos etc., then those same clubs will most likely be off loading players and a lot of the players that those clubs move on are still very good players.

We just need to be a bit smarter in who we go after, and if we fail to get a player then the back up choices should be players who would fit into our team in a similar manner as to how we thought the first choice would have done.

There are plenty of good to very good players out there. Some will be high profile and on a lot of shopping lists but there are always a few that the big boys don't have on their lists and those players often end up at clubs like Spurs, Southampton, Roma, Valencia, Napoli and so on, and those clubs we certainly can go head to head with.

To be honest I am not the sort to get overly annoyed if we lose out on a player to a club that can offer more. What would annoy me would be not trying for the player in the first place if the player looked right for us.

I think a big part of fans being disappointed is simply down to the era we are living in. Every story, rumour, and made up bit of tittle tattle is online within seconds and gets turned into long drawn out drama as a result.

We missed out on just as many top talents when we were in our pomp, but without the internet the first time the fans got to hear about some of the missed players was years after the event.

Apparently Vietto has a €12m buy-out clause. That would be a no brainer for him.

I just hope that we get our business done as early as possible.....we don't want to be going into the new season still looking for a striker...because that is when we will end up with something like Adebayor.

For me, if we bought Vietto for £12, Chicarito for £10m, got Ings for £3m, Milner for free and Vlaar for free, then we would have really improved the squad and first team for £25m.

Add a right back and another midfielder and we would be laughing.

Think if we did get Vietto that I would want another quality forward who can play on his own up front as well as he can play as part of a front two or three.

With the track record Sturridge has in terms of injuries I would be going all out to bring in someone like Aubameyang or Lacazette rather than Chicarito (who I do not think would be sold to us) . Would add a bit more, but would bring in players more suited to replacing and/or playing alongside Sturridge

                      That way we would have

                      Sturridge
                      Aubameyang or Lacazette
                      Vietto
                      Origi

And given that Sturridge misses quite a few games even in seasons that are not plagued with injuries, there would be plenty of game time for all.

And if Sterling left we could fit two of the four if not three of the four into the team most weeks even if all were fit at the same time.

You spend all last summer telling us that you want Liverpool to sign Rodwell, Caulker and Richards. You spend all year telling us how much Lallana was a waste of money and how we need to get a better calibre of player and now this summer, you want Chicarito and Vlaar. Crazy.

Hernandez is ****, would be hopeless for us. He can finish and score but contributes zilch otherwise, he can't join in the play and I reckon with the way we play we can't afford to carry someone like that.
