“I don’t want to put a figure on how many (players) but I would rather have one or two absolute top players than seven that might not help us.

“It’s about the quality. We can’t be going into the Champions League this year with doubts about players"

It seems that he was happy with the squad side of things last season and agreed that we just needed to add top quality. What has changed in that period? Why are we now once again seemingly looking to add yet more squad players 3 years into his master plan?

I think the "squad" is all right as it is, we only need to add top quality. Its amazing what a difference a top talent or two will make to the rest of the squad. Players who now seem bang average can often raise their game because of it.

When I look back on this interview and see where we are now, I really can't find any other conclusion than Brendan's out of idea's and wants to start all over again.
I think that stacks up more in his favour. He clearly stated he wanted a couple of stars and we didn't get them. We got potential. This guy wants what we want but he's having the work with one hand behind his back. IMO.

I agree in part, but the signings he identified by all accounts were Lovren and Lallana and they weren't exactly going to be the difference in the CL. But I hate having a manager and not back him, it's counterproductive.

It could well be that, but then he could make a statement by simply not agreeing to any purchase that doesn't meet this requirement unless absolutely necessary.

If West Ham don't offer Paco the job as manager then they are missing a trick.

Would he take it ? I don't know.

of course he would take it.

I think it would be great to see Pako return. Graham Hunter was on the radio this morning talking about him and it sounded like he thought that Pako would take the role if offered - which contradicts the story in the Echo stating that he wanted a #1 position somewhere.

I wonder would Brendan take it?? I suspect he wouldn't have much choice but I wonder would he welcome it anyway given how Pako fell out with Rafa in a big way. There seems to be no love lost from Brendan when talking about Benitez.

For me, the club need to appoint the backroom team sooner rather than later. I wonder would a Pako / Hyypia backroom team be good for Brendan..........

That did make some sort of sense in my head before I posted it.
I'd suggest that your head is the only place in which it made sense.

Mark Ogden, Telegraph - Ayestaran is understood to be keen. Meulensteen would prove controversial as he criticised Rodgers last November.

The dream team if all three could be squeezed into the dug out.

Rodgers would have a mix of talents, two of whom have impeccable coaching credentials. The other is well regarded at Man Utd!
