BRENDAN RODGERS will have to turn his back on a £10m fortune if he’s to accept the job of leading Celtic’s push for six-in-a-row.

The former Liverpool boss met with the Parkhead club’s majority shareholder Dermot Desmond in Ireland yesterday and was was immediately presented as the No.1 candidate to become Ronny Deila’s replacement.

But Record Sport understands Rodgers stands to pocket almost £5m a year over the next two years as per the terms of his severance deal at Anfield.

And that gardening leave jackpot will stop paying out from the moment he puts pen to paper on a contract with a new employer.

That means sugar daddy Desmond will have to dig deep to tempt Rodgers into accepting the job offer and turning his back on potentially more lucrative offers from other English Premiership clubs this summer.

No way will Celtic offer that kind of money, there just isn't that much money in the SPL to drop on management. Even half that.

There won't be another Premier League job available for him. The only other position he's been linked with is West Brom. He's only 43 years old, so 2-3 years at Celtic will still put at 46 years old, which is young in managerial terms, given that Rafa was 44 when he took over us, and Klopp was 48 when he came to us.

So Brendan, we want you to pay 7 mill to come and manage Celtic.

Disclaimer: the above is based on an uneduacted guesstimate of 1.5mill pa salary from Celtic.

              A £5m a year severance package.

We sure hardballed the **** out of him on that one.

£5m a year for getting sacked... What a life.

He's clearly very good at selling himself.
                Are we winning?

He'll be under extreme pressure to win the title, but good to have him back in football and goodluck to him

                        Big statement from Celtic.

He's not coming up here to sign players from the Swedish second division for 150k.

So that means we save £7m right?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                            He will win the title.

Even Delia with a **** Celtic team won the title easily. If he doesn't win the league he'll be gone by next summer.

I think this is a reasonably shrewd move by Brendan. He can't **** it up really, so we will be no closer to knowing if he is a good manager by the time he finishes at Celtic. Any other club and there may have been a bit of pressure.

Some easy silver wear for the CV and a guarantee of CL footy. Only down side is he wouldn't get the cash he is used to for signing duds. Oh and he'd have to live in Glasgow
Wish I'd put some cash on it when I heard this

It was just some lads I overheard chatting at the gym.

Unless he achieves something in europe, I dont think he will get any credit for the success. Good luck to him though.

I thought he could have attempted to manage maybe a second tier club ( who come 6-10) in La Liga, Netherlands, or Germany but I guess after the David Moyes and Gary Neville experiment, most European clubs will be wary of appointing British managers.
