He said himself that he already knows where we need t improve from watching us and that he already has targets in mind.

Not sure he knows who he's letting go yet though, would be a bit rash IMO.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Just thinking more about Rodgers' great first impressions in contrast with Hodgson's.

Brendan: "Liverpool Football Club is the heartland of football folklore. I will throw my life into this club, the supporters and the people of this city"

Woy: (When asked if LFC was the biggest club he'd ever managed) "Well I don't know about that, I'm not sure Inter would take too kindly to me agreeing with that statement"

        Etc.

One complete cunt, and the other seemingly ready-made for the club and someone who totally gets it.

The thing that drove everyone, myself included, absolutely mad last year was watching us dominate the ball-- which BR says is the foundation of his own style-- only to have mid table to lower table opposition have literally one chance to score and take it. It seemed like everyone had their "moment of the season" against us in some 1-0 win with us having 20 chances and not scoring. it was CRAZY to watch so many poor teams take a single clinical chance while we spent the entire game in their box without finishing.

The difference with BR will be his pressing style when we do not have the ball. Watch United and they swarm the ball and take it back always, same with Barca. The loss of Lucas killed us as everyone has mentioned, but if we only buy a couple of very high qualityDM/ CM types and a real winger, I'll be ok with it. We need to get healthy, get Suarez/ Carroll/ Gerrard in the pitch together, get some pace and quality out wide, yes yes yes, but to reverse our misfortune, it seems imperative we get BALL WINNERS back in the middle of the park who can get the ball back and launch an attack.

BR's demeanor and approach has completely reversed that and I think all fans are now happy (or at least cautiously optimistic) to have him on board.

Which leads me to believe that, once again, it is not the facts but uncertainty itself that drives people crazy. Now that we have a manager, we have someone specific to focus on, to evaluate and so far BR is ticking all the boxes. I like him, he seems very focused and seems to have a real plan.

I also like that he comes from my generation, one that can use technology well, and seems apart from the ancient fraternity of old school managers. His curiosity about Spain and Italy, about football in all its forms, tells me we have a real thinking person. I am not as familiar with his in game adjustments, so I don't know how he will handle that aspect-- one of the most frustrating things for me is watching a match and seeing a glaring problem that goes unaddressed-- but I have a lot of confidence in him.

Now it's time to panic about transfers until that sorts itself out followed by panicking about our pre-season performances, until the league gets here...
Good post BR about ... errr BR.

It's right on the money and if football fans are one thing about their team, it's fickle - myself included. Now let's start getting arsey about all the tenuous media links to players we have no interest in.

great post, drove me mad the amount of time we let the opposition have the ball in certain games, or how certain players could be anonymouse for the full game.

If the football is good to watch he will get the time as well without the crowd getting on his back.

a few additions to this squad and I expect great things next year ( great things mean challenging for top 4 this season)

Swansea's Brendan Rodgers touched by Kenny Dalglish's congratulations

Brendan Rodgers says he was "honoured" by the congratulations Swansea received from Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish after their Premier League promotion.

Dalglish was among the first to congratulate the Welsh side after their Championship play-off win over Reading .

As the Swans prepare to travel to Anfield on Saturday, Rodgers said he still treasures Dalglish's letter.

"I was very honoured to receive that from such a great man and a wonderful player," he said.

"It was a fantastic gesture - we received a number of those but this was the first to come through.

"It shows you why they are respected worldwide. It's those class moments and acts that go a long way.

"Kenny's come in and reignited the whole club - and because of that association that he's had his impact has been fantastic.

"I liken the way the club is run and their supporters to our own.

"They're both sets of supporters who understand the traditions of their club and the good footballing principles."

Liverpool are unbeaten at home in the Premier League this season, while Swansea have secured only one point on the road.

But Rodgers believes Swansea can do well at Anfield, citing the draws achieved by Sunderland and Norwich as examples.

"We understand no matter what ground it is this season that every game is going to be difficult away from home," said Rodgers.

"We go there really looking forward to the game and we feel our game is progressing and we're getting success in particular at home.

"But we want to turn some good performances on the road into points.

"But you know when you go to the big teams you also need that little bit of luck.

"If we can get that and perform like we can then we want to give ourselves an opportunity."

Midfielder Mark Gower is currently holding talks with the club over a new contract and Rodgers says the former Southend player thoroughly deserves a new deal.

"He deserves it, discussions have been ongoing and I am sure that they will be completed soon," said Rodgers of the 33-year-old.

"Mark has been brilliant since I've been here, he showed his worth last season and has been exceptional when he has come into the team this season.

"He gives his all every single day and is a player I wanted to ensure we did retain."

Brendan Rodgers has indicated he will speak to Liverpool's forgotten stars Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani before deciding on their future.

Rodgers was appointed as the Reds' new manager on Friday and is already running the rule over the talent at his disposal at Anfield.

Cole spent the season on loan at French club Lille, while Aquilani returned to his native Italy with AC Milan.
Both men have two years remaining on their contracts with Liverpool and Rodgers has suggested he is an admirer of their abilities.

"They're certainly talented players," he told the club's official website.

                          Talent

"I know Joe well from my time at Chelsea (as part of the backroom staff). He's a wonderful talent."

Even if Rodgers would like to reintroduce the players to the squad, he accepts that could be a problem if the footballer in question does not want to be there.

"The boy Aquilani is a wonderful talent and a terrific player but he might not be able to settle," he added.

"He might not be able to adapt to the country so you've got all those issues and sometimes you're not aware of that until you sit down and speak to the people."

Just listened to a few more interviews with him, I like him more each time I hear him speak - and I'll admit, he does appear to have the belief in himself, the club and the city that Shanks had - let's hope so, I for one am now very pleased that he's the new manager let's hope he convinces the doubters and the Raffalites...

My worry is that the big difference between Swansea and us last season was that we created more and put away a lower percentage of chances. I'm still not convinced that we missed such a percentage as they were all rubbish chances. As such I think there is a genuine question of how Rodgers will make us more clinical.

I agree with what is implicit in your post - i.e. that we don't need massive changes. I really can't agree with wiw that we will see an improvement in style as we were playing fairly decent stuff last season and failing to score.

On the flip side I think the things we need to change both to adopt an even more possession based approach and to be more clinical are just about the hardest things to change. I think wiw is right there - next season will be a struggle again. FSG are going to have to hold their nerve for a season or two I think to make this pay off.

Agree with everyone though that he comes across well and it is good that everyone seems to have swung behind him.
