Yup, when you consider the amount of football clubs that are operating at a loss compared with the number of clubs that have ceased to exist, it's hard to think that we would have sold Anfield and Melwood.

With regard to Patrick Burger's chat, I do think it's important to remember where we were before FSG came in and it's all relative to where we are today at this stage of rebuilding as Daniel7 has pointed out.

I think Carragher still has something to offer and I think it would be a good move from Rodgers to persuade him to stay on whilst we use this summer transfer window to replace Coates and Skrtel.

It wouldn't be the worst idea, still think we need a minimum of 2CBs even if he does stay on

Agreed, two centre backs this summer, then one to replace him whenever he does hang up his boots; it would spread the expenditure and stretch any transfer budget without sacrificing any real quality available within the squad.

I do wonder if one CB will come from either Kelly or Wisdom for 4th choice especially if Carra stays on.

If Carragher stays on for another season then that means we won't be signing Ashley f'n Williams !!

I feel Kelly/Wisdom would become the fourth centre-back, but they'd need a season playing in that role in the first team (subs/cup games) before counting on them for that place. I expect Coates and Skrtel to go, with Williams +1 more.

I thought Carragher was finished after last season, which I believed was bad for him, but he's really impressed me this year. His passing has been calm and assured, and he's been very composed too.

I know its not good to write youngsters off so early, but Kelly certainly doesn't seem to have the body to stay fit long enough nor the strength/leap to stave off big strikers. Wisdom doesn't seem to have enough footballing ability to play that role either, as displayed during his RB duties.

And I know Carra is hardly the Messi of defenders, but he has 10+ years experience which has elevated him as the best current defender at the club. At the age of 33. Not sure whether to celebrate or be shocked. We need good experienced CBs at this club fast, and we really need to keep hold of Carra for another season.

                      Carra's 35.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Tough to tell with Kelly, Gerrard had problems as a youngster with staying fit and got over them, I see your point though. Think it's harsh to write Wisdom off as not having enough ability at the age of 18/19 either for me would be 4th choice anyway and you'd likely see them only in cup games which is what you'd want.

We certainly need some decent investment into the defensive set up this summer though, we've worked on the attacking side of things to the detriment of the defence (we could only do either or and I agree with the choice we made) Skrtel is clearly not fancied and he had a number of brain farts earlier in the season which makes me question his concentration levels and Coates just seems to have no future with us, be nice to see a combined £12 - £15 Million for the pair.

It'd be worth keeping Carra to see Gorby's reaction alone.

Carragher is currently the best defender we have, never thought I'd still be able to say that.

Or we sign Williams and sell Skrtel.

Would that be a bad thing?
