If he was on £90,000 a week and we'd agreed to pay his wages for a full season that's over £4m straight away. We're not exactly going to be able to opt out halfway through for free either.
Robbie's right. We paid a a €5m loan fee (£4.4m) to secure Sahin and that's without taking in to account his wages.

I would love Rodgers to be a massive success and he made two excellent signings in the January window. That's quite encouraging. This next season is very important, if the owners back him in the transfer window then he must make significant progress. We need to be challenging for top 4 next season, we must close the gap.

Next season, if we lose Suarez then I'd be happy with overtaking Everton and fighting to finish above Tottenham. I know that doesn't seem massively ambitious but I can see Chelsea, United, City and Arsenal all spending without really weakening.

We finished 12 points behind 4th place. We'd need to turn 4 of our defeats this year into wins but without Suarez how many games would we have not won? For me cutting that gap down to 6 would be enough progress and a cup run to keep us happy.

              Where does it say that?

I know we were paying him £85k a week. And seeing as he stayed for around 4 months, that's going to around £1.4m.

Why can't we? So we were still paying him whilst he was at Borussia ??

I'm sure if we still had to pay him, we would have kept him.

It is understood that the Gunners had agreed to hand over a £2 million loan fee, plus pay most of Sahin’s wages, only for Liverpool to trump that by promising a £5 million fee and to cover all salary and relocation costs.
We got Carolled on that one too

He was here for 5 months was it? I found his deal was agreed on 25th August but not sure when it ended. A fair time scale would be about 24 weeks?

That's over £2m in wages, the loan itself would have no doubt carried a fee and even if for some bizarre reason Madrid let us cancel our agreement for free its not difficult to see it's likely the loan could reach £4m.
I'm not disputing the figure, just that it would be pretty ridiculous to pay his entire wages for the year but then let him go in January.

Would it not be more likely that Madrid would agree to let him move on provided another club was going to take up his wages? If he's not going to be playing here, its in their interests to allow him to move to get him game time.

                      What?

He played for us for 24 weeks roughly that in itself is over £2m in wages. FACT

When cancelling a contract, much like a phone contract (just an example!) there would be a termination fee. Not the full amount obviously but a % Just like West Ham paid to loan Carroll then his wages on top, if they cancelled the deal it wouldn't suit us 'the lenders' so we'd charge them a fee.

Plus the loan would not have initially been free, that's just ridiculous to suggest and some reports have that figure as high as £4.4m to begin with before any of the above is taken into account.

That would be the ideal situation but we put Madrid in a position they probably didn't want to be in, finding another taker. I'd imagine we suffer a penalty for forfeiting an agreement, even if not the deal was still a pricey one.

It's all if buts and maybes and pretty irrelevant, whatever the cost for having Sahin here it was a waste, the signing was a good calculated risk with limited budgets IMO which just didn't work out for us.

We did the right thing letting him move on to Dortmund

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Which back to what I said earlier, right now we can only consider 2/6 of his signings 'good' but importantly for me they are also his last 2 signings. Allen showed promise but has been poor longer than he was good. Borini for me, injuries are masking his problem, lack of technique and general ability.

Given that Allen had been carrying that injury for much of the season I think for me it's too early to judge either Allen or Borini at the moment.
