Brendan Rodgers agrees new long-term contract at Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers has handed Liverpool a timely boost by agreeing a new long-term contract.

The Liverpool manager has 12 months, plus the option of another year, remaining on his deal but owners Fenway Sports Group have rewarded him for taking the club back into the Champions League with terms that are set to run to 2018.

Rodgers has yet to put pen to paper but that is a formality.

The 41-year-old could do so before Liverpool’s final game of the season on Sunday, at home to Newcastle, but it is more likely to be shortly after the end of the season.
FSG have never made any secret of their ambition to keep Rodgers for the long term and, equally, he is relishing the challenge at Anfield.

The only hold-up on the deal was Rodgers wanting to concentrate on the Barclays Premier League campaign rather than have any distractions.

‘There is no doubt that, at some point, we will agree another deal,’ Rodgers said before Liverpool played Chelsea last month. ‘I am sure of that.’

Unlike many in football these days, this contract is well deserved.

Liverpool offer Brendan Rodgers four-year deal to soothe title dismay

Liverpool fans gloomy about the title will be cheered as Bendan Rodgers is about to sign a four-year deal

Brendan Rodgers has agreed a new four-year deal at Liverpool to offer some consolation to the club’s supporters after a traumatic few weeks in the Premier League.

While Liverpool’s defeat against Chelsea and draw at Crystal Palace has derailed their title bid, Rodgers’ long-term future has been secured following talks with the owners, Fenway Sports Group.

Although it is yet to be signed, it is understood that the contract in principle has been agreed which will keep Rodgers on Merseyside until at least 2018. Unlike the four-year deal he signed on joining Liverpool from Swansea City two years ago, the final year of this one is not “optional” depending on his performance. The removal of that safeguard is a symbolic acknowledgement that John W Henry knows he appointed the right man and wants him to lead the club into a prolonged new era.

Earned every penny of the new deal. The job he has done in such a short time has been remarkable.

spare a thought for dr steve. who sorts out his head for him...

Monday proved a dark day for Liverpool and Ronnie O'Sullivan but spare a thought for the psychiatrist working with both of them - Dr Steve Peters.
Within the space of 23 minutes his star pupils both relinquished leads to suffer crushing disappointment, and in the process perhaps some of the shine appeared to come off Peters' accomplishments across British sport in recent years.
First, Brendan Rodgers's team let a 3-0 lead slip to draw 3-3 with Crystal Palace, leaving their Premier League title chances looking slim, before O'Sullivan lost his first World Snooker Championship final after surrendering a 10-5 advantage against Mark Selby.

Maybe he needs to switch his attention to bonobos?

Not unhappy at the thought of him signing a 4 year deal. Obviously we need to be careful because things can go south quickly. But I think with the backing of the owners and the board, he can do amazing things.

This is why Rodgers will not buy a Crouch or a Carroll, unless they fit seamlessly into his style of play. There's been a lot of talk recently about having a different option, but Rodgers is not like that.

I must admit I do like that philosophy. Its how Guardiola works. Its done wonders for him

Pep ruined Bayern by trying to improve them though

Not sure if on the wind up

But I think its a case with them of him imprinting his idea. Its hard to improve on the team they had last year, so a new way of doing things was the only real thing for him to do. He didnt ruin them anyway, they won the league in record time
