In fairness, you could say that about any manager or player, ever.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostMajority of our players are young so you could use the same excuse for all of them. I've noticed that if players get stuck in and show 100%, those players improve under Rodgers. Those that don't, would likely not improve under anyone in this league.Substance > Style

By all accounts, they didn't know for months & were expecting him to stay. Also, numerous reports etc stated we went after, in no particular order;Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostThe club knew for months Suarez was leaving and they didn't do a thing to try and replace him. Just going for one player in Sanchez wasn't good enough. There should have been a long list of strikers that we should have gone after. But like always we went for quantity over quality.
Cavani, Benzema, Higuain, Falcao, Remy.
Other than that list of strikers, who should we have gone for who we had a reasonable chance of getting? Baring in mind we needed a player of real experience and top quality..... Off the top of my head, I can't actually think of anyone.Forwards.......

Well exactly. That's my point in answer to what you said.Originally posted by ronanm View PostIn fairness, you could say that about any manager or player, ever.
Backing up my original point, I would say look at what the players have said who worked under Rodgers. The ones that were part of the team have all said he improved them.Forwards.......

Anyway in a more honest answer to all that's going on, I think the players we have should either be playing a 433 or a diamond. I don't think we have the players to go in a different formation and be competitive to a high level. So I get why everyone is frustrated.
Sterling looks a top player when he's in the diamond at the tip. On the wing he doesn't look anywhere near as good. Coutinho looks average on the wing. Lallana isn't a wide man. Balotelli can't play up top on his own. Borini & Lambert aren't even anywhere near being good enough to lead the line. Henderson's best stat is his engine. Put him in a 4231 and he's just another average player.
One final point. People need to get away from this best line up bollocks. If we were playing a cup final all well and good. But the game is about rotation now and we need to remember that.Forwards.......

Three weeks ago we were being told Joe Allen returning would make a big differenceOriginally posted by alonso14 View PostThere is no easy fix to what's going on. There are no magical answers. Normally you would say hard work overcomes all problems, but we have no time on the training ground to do this.
We are playing almost 3 games a week, we have no time. Maybe the return of Daniel sturridge will inspire us. I certainly hope so because a new manager means more upheaval and yet another 3 years of transition.
There are no easy answers.

The teams level has dropped alarmingly in the past couple of weeks. I hope Daniel Sturridge will spark our attacking play but the deterioration in every department defence, midfield and attack can't be solved by one man.Originally posted by Lecter View PostThree weeks ago we were being told Joe Allen returning would make a big difference
I think the team has gone beyond the point where one player albeit a very important one can turn its fortunes around quickly.
He was put in better positions and our style of playing was built around him. Kennys was built around Carroll, buying likes of Adam & Downing. Rodgers first decision was to **** off Carroll who'd cost £35m. That was a massive decision.
IMO Suarez wouldn't have performed to the level he did without Rodgers. And I doubt he'd have ever moved to Barca or a club of that ilk. I get what you're saying, it's hard to say for sure. He obviously converted more chances because he was more in balance, which came about through being in better positions.
But whilst the Suarez we signed would have done better initially with the team built around him, I still think he improved massively under Rodgers. How much down to Luis and how much down to Rodgers is up for debate. But as Rodgers has improved a lot of players under his guidance, I'd give him some benefit of the doubt.
Re Carrol, that's not correct IMO, Kenny's teams weren't built around Carroll - Carroll rarely played due to injuries. And Carroll didn't resemble anything like a Brendan Rodgers player, and had underperformed before BR arrived so it wasn't a massive decision not to keep him.
Something clicked for Suarez for the last season and half that's for sure, and yes our style of play helped him, which is down to Rodgers - but he was getting lots of chances under Kenny but couldn't finish for **** - remember our woodwork stats that season?
In my mind he put a few away and grew in confidence and had Sterling and sturridge to pull defences apart and he took full advantage.
Be interesting to see how he does at Barca, and that's all about where they play him.
As for BR, he has my support - as long as we start showing signs of improvement in defence. Until that is properly sorted we will never be successful. And no coach is worth their salt if they can't produce a solid side.
Arsenal in their prime were the most attractive side this league's probably seen, yet they were great at the back too. It's possible to be both.Last edited by BG1973; 03-11-14, 09:43 AM.

We hit the woodwork around 42 times or something ridiculous. Still haunts me to this day. I think Downing had a higher number of hits than Suarez though, not sure.Originally posted by BG1973 View PostSomething clicked for Suarez for the last season and half that's for sure, and yes our style of play helped him, which is down to Rodgers - but he was getting lots of chances under Kenny but couldn't finish for **** - remember our woodwork stats that season?

Suarez was good under Dalglish but he became a machine under Rodgers. Could have been he was older and wiser under Rodgers or, more likely, the diamond formation nailed it for Suarez to shine. I agree with Danny, there is no way on earth Suarez is repeating last season's performance at Barcelona.
Luis will remember the peak he hit with us in years to come. Maybe write another autobiography in which no doubt he'll mention professional regrets of ever leaving Liverpool and if he could turn back time, blah di blah [cliches][hearditallbefore].One tit for another.

I'm a huge fan of Rodgers but he's not helping himself.
All the talk in interviews about bedding in new players added to a lack of training time is just plain ridiculous.
Ridiculous because while it's 100% true he bought them all, he knew they were all coming into the club and he also knew that we were back in the CL so we would have less time to train.
Everyone knew that, Rodgers is digging himself a pretty big hole and he needs to grow some balls, drop some players and sort it out otherwise he will come under huge pressure from the media and some sections of our fans. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I agree, particularly the lack of training time stuff he keeps trotting out. Wish he wouldn't come out with that stuff. I think his thinking has been quite muddled, you can see it with the team selections. And I know we can't read too much into what managers say publicly, but in May he said we'd be focusing on quality and not quantity in the summer. I think he specifically said we won't be going out and buying 7 or 8 players, and in the end that's exactly what we did. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

And we're in the Champions League with doubts over all of them. eg Markovic, Can, Moreno and Manquillo - all potential. Lovren - **** and not up to it. Lambert...is he CL quality?"I don't want to put a figure on how many but I would rather have one or two absolute top players than seven that might not help us," he told Liverpool's website.
"It's about the quality. We can't be going into the Champions League this year with doubts about players.
"We have to be going in knowing what the players' capacity to play is and their capabilities."
What a mess. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
