The real challenge is that it doesn't destabilise us for a long time. Spurs are still suffering from their summer of madness and we need to ensure that the same doesn't happen here.At the moment we've got all our eggs in the Sturridge basket, and that is one hell of a risk.

Brendan Rodgers

Lambert is neat and tidy but was no doubt as Rodgers continually says, brought in as a sub and a plan B.
The biggest issue was Suarez leaving and then Failing to replace him with players like Sanchez, Cavani, Falcao, Higuain, Benzema, Pedro, etc....... I even heard Lacazette of Lyon turned us down. Led to last minute gamble of Balotelli.
Agree 100%. The whole team was high tempo, closing down, fast counter-attacking and ruthless in last seasons games... but with a crumbly defence. Wasn't just Suarez at all, they were all in tune and on the same wavelength. This year, we've got new players to bed in, recurring injuries and players just being 'off form' all at the same time. It's like a perfect storm.
One thing that is in our control though is the system we play and I still believe Brendan has been tactically inept not choosing the diamond when everyone can see we've lost movement, creativity and Mario's completely isolated on his own. He needs to switch it back and play two up top.

i think we somehow needed to change our style due to the fact that teams wouldn't allow us space in behind this season. so now we need clever movement and pace at the right moment which means patient probing and keeping the ball when the moment doesn't arrive. we still seem to rush things and go for the killer ball way too often. we had games like that last season and didn't get much out of them either.
what's disappointing though is that fact that rodgers clearly thought we had kept our spine and that the new boys can be eased in. but our (enforced?) change in style meant that that plan is out of the window.
so say that rodgers' been found out, that our success last season was down to suarez is just laughable imho.

I can't agree, Suarez did as much damage without the ball as he did with it. Teams were in such fear of him that it created space for the likes of Sturridge, Sterling and Coutinho to exploit. Yes, we have one or two players that are good technically and we have pace, but without Suarez it would not have worked anywhere near as well as it did.Originally posted by Tribute View PostAgree 100%. Why do so many fans use this phrase? No manager at premierleague level is 'tactically inept' They all have to understand basic tactics otherwise they wouldn't be there. Sure they make tactical errors which are easily pointed out in hindsight, but the arrogance of fans to sit there and say well he's tactically inept is laughable.Originally posted by Tribute View PostAgree 100%. Pinched from Sky:
Errors leading to shots & goals in the last 3 seasons:
MOST:
Tottenham with 37 shots and 31 goals.
Liverpool with 64 shots and 28 goals.
Arsenal with 56 shots and 26 goals.
FEWEST:
West Brom with 28 shots and 13 goals.
West Ham with 22 shots and 13 goals.
Chelsea with 26 shots and 7 goals.
That's nearly ten goals a season we are gifting the opposition.

I understand why he's doing what he's doing tonight but going forward, in the European tournaments we are always going to come up against teams who are more well equipped than we are and Brendan will have to show he's able to go to these places and get a result or we'll never get anywhere in European competition.
