I know I come across as being a doom-monger but believe me, some of the best experiences I've had in my life have been with LFC lifting trophies.

I say it as I see it, and at the moment LFC is placing all its faith in speculative investment. We have owners with no experience in football, handing the reins to a manager with no experience of managing a top class football club, replacing experienced world class players with inexperienced prospects, or players who we hope have yet to reach their potential.

Its not the way you build a world class club, we're basically throwing in a load of ingredients and hoping lightning strikes and the stars all align.

Its certainly not going to help our case either if we continue to have people at the club going public saying that we'll struggle to bring in top players. What sort of message is that sending out?

I genuinely think that people are thinking too short term. The fact is that we need to build a solid infrastructure for future success. I don't think that FSG have been perfect but they have shown willingness to both invest and evolve their approach over time.

I actually completely disagree with the statement:
"Its not the way you build a world class club, we're basically throwing in a load of ingredients and hoping lightning strikes and the stars all align."

I think it is much more that we hope/believe that coaching and selection can build something that works consistently over time. We may have made mistakes in both departments but we appear to evaluate the miss-steps we have made and try to rectify them.

There are no new 'super owner' clubs buying their way in because FFP and other financial conditions have made it harder to break in to that club and less attractive for those inclined. Recently we have seen Malaga and Monaco try and fail with the short term success buying plan.

Brendan is under huge pressure at the moment so hes looking for ways to justify why we're rubbish. so far he's blamed

        - the owners for buying young players
        - the pitch
        - the medical staff
        - individual mistakes
        - london for having a giant wheel and plenty of wax dummies

but hes never admitted that his system isnt right. as much as we think fenway know nothing about football, they know plenty about sports and they know when theyre bring kidded. There's no money to spend in this window says either we've blown our load in the summer or they're not backing rodgers.

I think theyve lost faith in him.

Apart from radically altering his formation and tweaking his tactics?

He has done this and played players in different positions. Sometimes not in the right positions.

For me it's more worrying to think that at this stage in the season, he still doesn't know his best team or formation.. with the players he has at his disposal.

Be interesting to see how he sets it up when Sturridge gets back.

Likely to stay the same if things continue to be positive. Danny up top today would have been a different proposition.
              Forwards.......

The system we have at the moment is obviously working much better than the one we had at the start of the season, but it wasn't something that was planned in the summer. And to me the team does seem like square pegs in round holes in some cases.

The need for 3 centre backs and the wing back system suits some players such as Moreno (who IMO is more of a wing back than a full back), but there is no obvious candidate for a RWB (a young Johnson at his peak would have been ideal but that ship has sailed) Henderson isn't a wing back, neither really is Manquillo. Markovic did well there, but I can't help feeling he could be more effective further forward, however that would put him into competition with Coutinho, Lallana and Sterling (when Sturridge is back). Can has done well as a CB but that isn't really his position.

The striking positions will also be interesting will he play Sturridge as a loan striker or do we believe that Balotelli, Lambert or Borini will do much better playing alongside him. Can we even play 2 strikers with we play 3 CBs?

There are just so many questions about what we do going forward.

There was obviously no plan to play 343 this year and of course that's apparent in some of the positions. But we at least play like we are supposed to in this system. I was starting to lose faith with Rodgers when he kept repeating the same drab football. I was thankful he changed it and started being true to himself. You have to be strong to lead this club and earlier this season he went within himself slightly IMO. Cost us the CL, but I'm happy to stick with him as he's showing he can learn from his mistakes.

I don't have a problem with how we are playing at the moment it suits the players we have available. I'd like to think that we could slot Sturridge back in to the current system and things improve significantly. However I think that a few players will have to be shuffled around, so it will be interesting to see if we stick with this formation long term or if it is viewed as a short term solution to get us through the season and in the summer (or even in Jan) we look to buy players who will suit the original plan. I think Sturridge's return could give us big clues about this.

Return of Sturridge as you say is when things will look clearer. He can play in the Borini role today and be ten times better. But he also looked good alongside Mario v Spurs.

I think that 3 CBs and 2 strikers could leave us somewhat short in other areas, or make it difficult to accommodate so many of our better players.

4 points of 4th,as bad as things have been,we can still get 4th,alot depends on striker/s and our back line and GK and jan transfers!

No one likes these 'next x games' threads but if we win all our Prem games in January and February - we'll be top 4 and competing with Utd for 3rd.
