He took the most talented collective group of individuals I can ever remember seeing at the club (peak Gerrard, Torres, Alonso, Mascherano, Carragher, Agger and Reina) - while I can vaguely remember Kenny's epic team of Barnes etc this is a more conscious memory for me - and won **** all with them. Nothing. He came close but didn't do it. And he followed that up with that combustion of a 7th place finish and being launched out the champions league at the group stage. He also completely alienated one of our best players in Alonso at the time. Haven't we already go a manager capable of repeating Rafa's swan song.

    So yeah. Great success.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

The reason we won't have Rafa back is here in this thread. The fanbase is split on him and argue already over him. half will turn on him as soon as things get tough. FSG will want someone with a clean slate who everybody can get behind.

I think we'd go for De Boer if FSG do make the decision to sack Rodgers.

and his football is mind numbingly boring.

Every time the manager's position is available, there is the inevitable shout for Rafa by some fans.... followed by the inevitable arguments. Had some great memories when he was here but it got to the stage where it was the right thing for him to go. He is a good european manager but conflict does seems to follow him. Rather look to something new and different than something that has been done already and in the end wasn't clearly working.

            Besides he managed Chelsea..ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!

My choice would be Klopp because not only has won things with a team where he constantly has to sell his best players and rebuild, but because there is longevity in him. Someone like Simeone or the other names being touted would probably see us as stepping stone and regardless of success would be gone after a couple of seasons. Whereas Klopp, I think, would want to build something long term. Plus he's crazy and would be entertaining to watch.

I know Klopp is doing crap this season, but I think he's just run his course there, one rebuilding project too many. To be honest, the fact he's having a **** season is good because it means he'll probably be available.

Metro linking us with Simeone, sure Athletico would wipe the floor with us. Not a chance IMO and lazy journalism there.

To be honest mate, half of the fanbase will turn on whoever the manager is as soon as the going gets tough. It's been that way for the last decade.

I'd love Rafa back, but don't want to see it happen purely because of the ridiculous disdain that so much of our support has for him.

Klopp would interest me if we were looking for a new manager, outside of him it doesn't really matter to me anymore. Whoever it is will be ripped apart at the first sign of trouble.

He brought all those players to the club...

You argued before, facetiously or not, that he won the CL with Houllier's team but now he doesn't get credit for assembling the 'most talented collective group of individuals' you can remember because he didn't win anything?

There are many thing to rightfully criticise Rafa about, but I firmly believe we would have won the league if that team wasn't asset-stripped by the owners.

I like the fact our inability to defend for 3 seasons is described as the first sign of trouble

Not to mention that Scum & Chavs squads were more expensive than ours/
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Rafa will never happen imo FSG won't bring him in and the press would have a field day as soon as results didn't run as we'd want them to.

For me Rafa is part of our history and should stay there.

But that wasn't when it started. It started in the first few weeks of his reign.

I remember a large amount of goodwill towards him. He came across as a bit of a prat, an arrogant big head without any success to back it up, which put some people off, but nobody was on his back.

Rodgers has done a lot more things wrong than right, unfortunately. I hope he turns it around but I doubt his ability to do so.
