I'm not sure that's true at all. Indeed, if you look at it in terms of stats, this current side has finished lower in the league each of the last 3 seasons than Houlliers teams did in the respective 3 seasons before Rafa took over. Relative net spend on the team over those same periods is probably quite similar. Houllier screwed up terribly in that transfer window when he bought Diao, Diouf and Cheyrou, but up to then that team had been building quite well. Before our less than successful spend last year, we'd had several years of turbulence and indeed selling of players. When Rafa took over Gerrard was hitting his peak as genuinely one of the world's best. And with only a few changes, that team was "good enough" to win the Champions League.

I think there's a good base at our club for Rodgers to build on. But a "big difference" between the two situations? Overall, I really can't see any justification for that statement at all.

I think we created a lot of chances last season and the lack of goals was a massive issue..

The priority must be securing a top class finisher..

No point buying creative players of holding midfielders if we haven't got anyone to put the ball in the net..

One of the big things in Bren's favour is that I refuse to believe we can be as unlucky next season as we were this.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

Liverpool, who incidentally started that game against Huddersfield in 8th place in the league, another parallel. Division 2 of course but still.

He's saying some very encouraging things - not least that the players need to be as good as the fans.

We need to get healthy, get Suarez/ Carroll/ Gerrard in the pitch together, get some pace and quality out wide, yes yes yes, but to reverse our misfortune, it seems imperative we get BALL WINNERS back in the middle of the park who can get the ball back and launch an attack.

the mentality was poor. we'd lose possession, then every man would pelt it back into our half and drop back, far too deep for my liking, and allow the other team to come at us.
the only real exceptions were the occasional chasing down of defenders by andy, louis and steve.

is tika taka a translation of pressure and pressing?
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

It's more about short, sharp passing and retaining possession.

The Rodgers element, from what I can gather, is the pressing and pressurising to surrender possession and build again.

To add to that, I think we have to remember that a lot of this short passing will be done infront of the opposition, therefore we will have to make the right runs and find the right pass. We also need to desperately improve our potency upfront and be a hell of a lot more clinical - more of the ball doesn't specifically mean more chances.

Hotel charges $15 a day for internet access and given I barely spend time there it doesn't seem worth it.

So in short I'm a cheapskate
