Couple of players coming out now and saying they are glad Brendon gave them a kick up the arse the other day.

The more I think about it, the more I think it's a good move too. Anyone that takes it to heart and let's it effect them won't have the right mindset to make it at the top end of the game.

Players say something one day and forget they said it the next, and tbh...most players say what they think their fans want to hear.

Well see if we have a similar performance again in the near future as the Oldham one, then we'll know if they took it all in.

He managed to get a few games out of Downing so I'd say it was some motivation

Many people have said from the start that they think Henderson has a future here and it's shaping up to look that way, we've brought in both Allen and Sahin, but Henderson is now a well deserved starter.

He increases our tempo and work rate which is something we lack badly when he doesn't play, its refreshing. 2 goals and 1 assist in his last 2 league games is nice to see as well.

Dowing was very different, he was told he could leave, lfc career over though, also we don't really know why he suddenly performed better, maybe to make sure he got a move to a club on good money ?

Well see if it's problem solved, and Dowing continues along these lines for a consistent period of time, not just a few weeks.

Still to be convinced on Downings ability to be good consistently.

hes played most of his life on the left going out and getting crosses into the box. now we're asking him to do the exact opposite which is to cut in and allow his fullback the room to overlap.

he's not a goal scorer so when he cuts in he doesnt offer a threat like a robben would.

i feel for downing because hes not that bad a player.

? I said he managed to get a few good games out of Downing.. That was it He'll be sold in the summer, maybe back to Boro if they come up.

Henderson was told the same as Downing, 'you can find a new club'. Since then both players have played to a better level that before they were told they were free to leave. Whether it was intended as motivation or not it kicked them both up the arse and in terms of Henderson it could save his Liverpool career whereas in Downing's case it's probably prolonged it 6 months.

Rodgers is so good at man management he got that Villa lad to score three today! All he did was mention that he's been crap after playing us!

I apologise for that. but i just want us to win. i want to see champions league nights back at liverpool, i want to see the team win and most of my frustration comes down to the fact that i think we're hugely underperforming.

that imo comes down to the manager.
El Mat, I think this post really shows, to me anyway, that your expectations of the team at the moment are unrealistic. In the last 3 seasons we have finished 6th, 7th and 8th. We have not qualified for the CL under 3 successive managers, all of whom had bags of experience and pedigree in their own ways. And the other night we were playing Arsenal away, a team who have come 4th or better every year for 15 years. Yes it was a bit frustrating losing a 2 goal lead, as it always is, but all the evidence says that actually we aren't underperforming at all. Right now we're at about our level. We beat almost everyone beneath us and lose to almost everyone above us.

Everyone kept going on about us having had the worst start in a hundred billion light years or whatever, so in all honesty to be 7th now and looking up the table shows we've actually been in pretty decent form for the last couple of months. Which would seem to me to indicate Rodgers is doing a pretty fair job. Not brilliant, we've issues at the back and in midfield, but I don't see any rational way you can justify saying we're "hugely" underperforming overall this year and that's all Rodger's fault. We were never going to get back into the CL this season, and I'm afraid if you don't adjust your expectations just a touch to allow for that and give the club some development time then really you're going to be one permanently unhappy supporter.

The arsenal game was a terrible waste of 2 points which would have put us right in the mix for fourth.

I think we have the players to get fourth but we've lost points due to some things that should have been changed much earlier.

Even Rodgers said himself were going foe fourth. So where's the unrealistic expectations. The win at arsenal would have been massive. Now we've got city tomorrow and god knows how that's going to turn out.

I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't have taken a draw at the Emirates before the game. It is always disappointing to lose advantage when we go ahead, but realistically 2-2 would have been a good result which most of us would have taken before the game.

Of course he said 4th was the target, can you imagine the kicking off if he said he was aiming for "at least 8th"?

Thing is dude, your assertion that we have the players is not backed up by history. This group didn't come 4th the last 3 seasons in a row under a variety of very experienced managers. In the summer we bought 2 pretty inexperienced players and lost several very experienced ones, and played the first half of the season with such a weak squad we've had to play multiple youngsters, some of whom really haven't been ready.

Perhaps in the best of all seasons, with Spurs, Arsenal and Everton all worse than they have been, perhaps this squad could have put in a sustained challenge for 4th. But really, the first 2 of those especially are considerably further on in development terms from where we are and have finished above us now for several seasons in a row at least. To think we could and should get 4th ahead of both of them, to expect that level and be heavily critical when we don't achieve it despite everything... well it doesn't seem the most sensible of positions. Nor the most constructive imo.

Basically what I'm saying is that you overrate our squad as it is right now and has been over this season, quite significantly it seems. The evidence really does support this view I think.

at the start of the season he said we would do fantastic to finish where we did last season which was 8th.

                                He actually said this
