No time to format as on my way out...

Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard selects his All-Time Reds Starting XI on LFC TV

Steven Gerrard just recently made his 600th appearance for Liverpool football club. His exploits at the club have seen him help the reds to achieve every piece of silverware in the game except for the English Premier League title. Gerrard has been part of Double and Treble winning seasons, but is still yet to lift the one trophy that he and the club hold the most dear.

He has come close on a number of occasions, most recently in the 2008-09 season where the Red finished four points off the pace of Manchester United in what looked to truly be the Red’s year, but they fell just short and the squad began to dismantle from that point forward.

Looking back Gerrard has no regrets as he has been part of a multitude of great teams in the Red of Liverpool. However, he did sit down recently with LFC.tv and give out the list of the all-time Liverpool firs team that he would most prefer to be a part of in the modern era.

The Liverpool captain started with the ever present Pepe Reina in goal. The Spanish shot stopper has been a true steward of the club, and despite his recent injury issue, has been one of the most capped players of his tenure rarely ever missing a match.

Gerrard then picked Marcus Babel at right back as he was one of the players that helped to win the treble of the League Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup during the 2000-01 campaign.

The famous partnership of Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia came next. Carra remains one of the all time greats for the club at the back and continues to soldier on under the new regime despite not seeing as much first team action as he would like. Finnish legend Hyypia is perhaps the greatest Scandinavian to ever pull on the red shirt, at least for now as Danial Agger is sure to make a push for that in the long run.

Glen Johnson made the list as a leftback, despite that not being his natural position as Gerrard called him the best in the game at his role and that he could play anywhere and make a massive contribution.

Gerrard continued on building his side in the newly familiar 4-1-2-3 that the club has adopted under Brendan Rodgers by including Didier Hamann in the holding midfielder role with himself and Xabi Alonso as the central midfield pairing.

Lastly the front line consists of a group of players that had their time all come at once they would have been an absolutely terrifying attack to any English Premier League defense. Gerrard first named Robbie Fowler who looked to be placed in a right forward role. Next Luis Suarez made the list as a wide left player in the position that saw him rise to prominence with Ajax before moving to Liverpool.

Finally the last piece of the puzzle was Fernando Torres. The Spaniard was without a doubt the most dangerous forward in the Premier League from 2007-2010 and he made it a habit to score against every top club he came up against for the Reds as he was the quickest player in the club’s history to score 50 goals, completing the feat in only 72 matches.

Steven Gerrard can look back on a wonderful career with some of the world’s greatest players having player alongside of him at Anfield and across Europe. But at the age of 32-years-old the spritely boyhood Liverpudlian continues to look up for any challenge as he remains that most important part of today’s Liverpool first team along with his current teammate Luis Suarez.

Steven Gerrard’s All-Time Liverpool Starting XI: Pepe Reina; Marcus Babel, Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia, Glen Johnson; Didier Hamann; Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso; Robbie Fowler, Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

half of us couldnt even kick the ball that far let alone guide like a targeted missile. Amazing talent.

its a shame that rodgers will eventually sideline him and keep him out of the team.

Surely that is at some point inevitable, no matter who is in charge. He's an excellent player but he's getting older. He's not ideally suited to a deep role. It will be interesting to see how he fares once we have Allen + a DM in the middle as that will allow Rodgers some added flexibility in his role/position.

this is the biggest problem i have with rodgers 433.

gerrards role as the kingpin / playmaker in the side will be redundant if rodgers gets his way. If you look at the profile of that player playing at the tip of the midfield 3 its not a creative role as such which gerrard excels at.

Its more of a getting onto the end of things role like a lampard. If you look at sigurdsson he's closer to lampard in how he plays than someone like gerrard who if given licence can get 20 goals and 20 assists.

Rodgers doesnt want someone who will demand the ball in the final third but he just wants someone who will get involved with play and arrive late into the box like sigurdsson did.

To be honest, when i watched swansea play you didnt notice what sigurdsson was doing other than when he scored a goal. he didnt look creative like a modric, he didnt really do anything exceptionally well but he just arrived late and scored goals.

Hence why he likes shelvey in that role. once lucas is back - gerrard will be out wide right.
