Being away from his family must be really hard.

Given that cash isn't an issue, I'm not altogether sure why he bothered? Shame we didn't offer him a coaching job and a super sub role.

      Seriously?

As with most footballers they play because they love the game, the fame and walking out in front of 45 thousand people every game. Those experiences are not forgotten easily when they retire.

They don't all play just for the money.

Well, I'd say you only have one opportunity to spend time with your kids. I wouldn't swap time with mine for money, glory, football, anything.

If money wasn't an issue, I don't know why you'd do it.

Speaking English isn't the same as speaking English in America. There are tons of cultural differences, from kwoffee to coffee, tea to tea and outlooks on life in general. Work life balance is different to what the Brits are used to, I roughly spend 2-3 weeks in the UK per quarter and the differences are massive.
I make no apologies, this is me

Also, its a bloody different way of live out here, its taken me two years just too understand the differences so he need a bit of a break. that said, he doesn't help himself with the BT work (its been commented on). Next season he'll fire, he's too much quality not to...
His kids are still in school in Liverpool my kids go to the same school

Came as a bit of a shock as it was expected the whole family would up sticks and go for the entire time

Was a brave decision not to all go but I think the type of person he is it will be to his detriment to be away from his kids for long periods of time. OK he will have holidays and half terms with them but missing the day to day contact with the kids must be tough

What's the work life like there? Sorry to hijack the thread, I'm very curious!

Was gonna query that myself. Is it a goal or shot on goal?

The article's right - they didn't bench him, but they should've. Stevie hasn't been very good since he joined, and he doesn't seem like he's enjoying it at all. And dan's right, the pace of the game is a serious problem for him. It's a **** league, but it's a fast one. Old midfielders without legs (Stevie, Pirlo, Lampard) always look average in it. Italy would've been perfect for him, at least on the field.

Krisztian Nemeth (who's done well) plays tonight, by the way.
Did he score? Every time I see MLS highlights (not very often) he scores.

                        Great player.

Things have changed for him then. He said this originally:

The big challenge is going to be settling in, I've lived in Liverpool all my life. I'm a Scouser through and through. I love my City. I love my roots. But, you only get one life, it's important to try different things and experiences and it's also a big thing for my children too - to take them out of their comfort zone and give them experiences that will hopefully help them develop as humans as well.
He seems like he's mad about his family and kids, being apart is going to be a huge problem for him.

I expect he'll have his contract cancelled soon enough and he'll head back to the UK.

I wouldn't discount the fact that he gave everything for us so even when he wasn't at the level he used to be at, he'd find an extra few % of effort as we were his life.

I can't imagine he feels the same way about LA.
