Stevie ! He's given me so much joy over the past decade and more. I'm so thankful for everything he's done for Liverpool and wish him all the best. This is definitely bittersweet.

One of our all time greats, and one who's given us some great memories. They should give him a one match contract so that he can play his last game in a red shirt.

LFC just released a top 10 premier league goals - some phenomenal strikes on there. I can't link to it in work unfortunately. Do a search.

              That Man Utd goal...

              That Boro goal at Anfield...

That Villa free kick on the opening day of the season 07/08

              Stunning

I love the guy - he's the 'greatest' we've had in my opinion. Just everything adds up for him. Yes Suarez is a wonderful talent and a 'better' footballer than gerrard, but he was here what 2/3 years and jumped ship. Dalglish is amazing but it's slightly before my time so I am maybe biased, but he played in good sides. Gerrard's had to play with some ****ing donkeys at times.

The things that put gerrard up there we all know - his ability, his pace, his strength, timing of tackles, passing, finishing, heading etc - he's one of the few players i'd say in the modern game who could have played pretty much any position and be the best player on the park. Ryan Giggs/Paul Scholes etc they might be wonderful ****ing talents, but stick them right back or centre half? no chance. I've seen gerrard play left mid, right mid, off the striker, cm, dm, rb, rwb etc etc and be class.

The fact that he's a Liverpool lad, and joined the club as a boy and stayed here is whole career is also astonishing

But another thing for me - it's not only the amount of goals, not only the ridiculous quality of the goals but also the timing/moments he scored.

I've always rated the 'best ever' type players on what they do in the big moments. The high pressure/pull something out the bag when the pressure is huge and it has to happen. Whether it's a great save/tackle/pass/run/goal - the greatest players rise to the occasion and deliver when it matters most.

Maybe it's bias, maybe it's because I've watched his whole career so remember it more than other players but I can't think of any other player I've seen to consistently time and time and time after time do something huge when it matters most.

The only word that can be used when talking of Gerrard is 'legend'. A player who had everything, played everywhere, loved his club and epitomised it. Watching him grow into the side at Anfield, to take over as captain and deliver one of the maddest nights I've ever seen in Istanbul. Singing his name countless times on every part of Anfield, seeing his celebrations after smashing in some thunder******* of a strike, the passion, the commitment, the drive to go and win every time. Unbelievable.

I didn't get to watch players like King Kenny and Rush in person, so for me Stevie is the best I've ever seen in our shirt. The Torr-ard partnership almost delivered the big one and looked telepathic at times. Him and Alonso in midfield were unbelievable, especially when backed up by Mascherano. Having seen players like Him, Suarez, Torres etc all grace the pitch was a pleasure, but Gerrard stands above them all.

I think he wants to come back home, that's obvious, get him on the ambassador programme with Owen, McAllister and Fowler then reintroduce him into the coaching setup from the ground up. Academy first etc.

Kind of gutting he's retired from playing really. If come near the end of the season and things are looking like a title, I'd love him to play just to get that medal and shut some folk up.

So great to see his former teammates saying great stuff on social too. Riise, Owen, Kuyt all with great comments and others from the game too.

                    Ste Gerrard, Gerrard!

You're absolutely right of course. Suarez is the best/most talented player, but Gerrard is Liverpool's greatest and the most complete footballer of his generation.

Shooting (long range, one v one, penalty box finishes), passing (switches of play, long, defence splitting through balls, you name it), heading, tackling, running from deep with timed runs, crossing, penalties, free kicks, genuine pace, raw power and strength - he had everything. Maybe tactically he had a weakness but it's nitpicking - he's the kid everyone wants on their team. I've not really thought about him since he's gone cos Klopp has kept our mind off him - but if you stop and think, watch the videos of all those unbelievable goals, all the times he dug us out of the ****, all the times he ****ed Everton over....... it's quite moving. We've watched him come and go, and we'll be telling our Grandkids about him. Steven ****ing Gerrard

theres a game where it turned for my dad and I just can't quite put my finger on it - he always had Kenny as the greatest and i'd argue for gerrard.

then one game and it's not even one of his famous moments - it all changed and my dad called me up and said you're right Gerrards the best, he's ****ing Roy of the Rovers

if memory serves me correct it was a European game, possibly a two legged qualifier or early group game and we were at home against someone okish and for some reason we don't start Gerrard. I think we may have had a lead from the first leg??? - Anyway, we were playing ****ing dreadful and may have been 2-0 down at half time, and brought gerrard on for the second half and he just ****ing smashed everyone and again memory is hazy but I think he scored a hat trick to win the game, or maybe scored two/assisted - whatever it was he did it was just stupid

i'm going to have to dig deep to remember it now

                          Found it -

it was against Napoli in the Europa League - we were 1-0 down, playing ****e football under hodgson and Gerrard came on and scored a hattrick and just completely ran the show

Him 'owning' (maybe even pwning) jagielka summed him up for me, incredible desire/effort, aggression and skill in a situation that others wouldn't bother with. Obviously so much more to his game than this but coupling that spirit with world class ability is what made him a great LFC captain. And he would have been perfect for Klopp when in his prime.

Could you imgine him in a Klopp team, he'd be Lallana on steds.

Gerrard and Suarez are the most Klopp-like players there ever was. We'd have thrashed everyone home and abroad if we had them at their peak together under Klopp's tutelage.

Anyway, just looked up the FA Cup final.
