Rafael Benitez's net spend in 6 years: £81m approx. Kenny Dalglish's net spend in 8 months: £51m approx. The FSG effect. #LFC
    Are we winning?

I really do think that Rafa would have won the league given the sort of net spend that Kenny is now getting.

        Personally, I don't.

So do I. I mean...he got us to within a cunthair of winning it in 09 on a comparative shoestring. In fact I'll maintain until the day I die that we should've won it and were the best team in the league that year.

Still, Kenny may well do yet. Not this season though, obv.

We played some magnificent stuff that year...United didn't win the league, we lost it.

Bollocks. Lots of draws with dross, and a few rather fortunate late goals kept us in it.

Rafa would have walked the league with that kind of budget. We would have most probably had both Silva & Aguero aswell.

I think even Rafa would have struggled to turn us into winners or challengers from where we were left after Hodgson. Obviously if he had stayed then that damage wouldn't have been done but I think it is worth reserving judgement on the project being under taken by Dalglish - when Rafa had to rebuild the team/squad in his first season we didn't do so well.

I think it is very likely that if FSG had been in charge instead of G&H then Rafa would have won the league.

Aguero would be in his 4th/5th season for us!

Yeah my initial comment wasn't meant as a slight against Kenny at all.

But in my opinion, if from the end of the '08 season, Rafa had had a comparable net spend available to him that Kenny is getting now, he would have won us the league within the next two seasons. A top, top additions to what we had back then (Alonso, Mascherano, Torres etc) we would have been

                          That's key for me.

Also as Reece said, if Rafa could've bought in a couple more players to compliment the likes of Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso and Torres we'd have probably won it.

Still sickens me how we didn't do it in 08-09. Good team, good football and so close to winning the PL.

Cos United have never had those, have they?

When they do it it's a mark of their awesomeness. We do it and it's derided. Ridiculous. 86 points and 2 defeats speaks for itself, end of story.

                                Well said

We battered all and sundry when we had our full team that season. Lack of backup for Torres cost us, in my opinion
