Pity we didn't win the PL under him - came damned close, and we could have had another European Cup too (why he didn't start with Crouch I'll never know).
His stint at Chelsea has proved he is a great manager. If BR doesn't perform next season I'd like Rafa back.
I was often critical of Rafa. But, if BR was to leave, I'd definitely take RB back :-)
If Utd had appointed Rafa, they'd go on to dominate Europe (not just the Prem). Thank **** Fergie hates Rafa!Another MASSIVE game

The arguments about him among our fan base will never stop until he gets another go at it so for that reason alone I think we have to do it at some point.
He is an excellent manager, he got worn down by the circus that was the club at the time.I thought it was time for a change but not the change we got, that was the biggest mistake IMO, not sacking him.

Just my opinion. With a team including Reina, Carra, Hyypia, Alonso, Masch, Gerrard and Torres in their prime when the league wasn't as competitive as is now, we should have won the title. Yeah towards the end of his reign there was huge conflicts with owners etc, but before that, he had a very good team/squad assembled.Originally posted by Fivex View Post

Not going to turn this into a was he great or wasn't he great debate. Undoubtedly a huge achievement in 2005 and a great coach. Just makes absolutely no sense in him coming back now. Need to look forward. Whether Rodgers is the man it's open to debate, but I'm not of the view that 'If Rodgers doesn't do it, I'd bring Rafa back'.

I think that sums it up to be honest. It was time for a change. But the change that was made was absolutely ridiculous. No way should he have been sacked and replaced with Hodgson. While the league may not have been as variable the other teams around us were far stronger and united had ronaldo scoring for fun and Ferdinand and Vidic at the top their from with an excellent van der Saar behind them. Chelsea and arsenal were also undeniably far strong sides too. Blinkered at best. Between 05 - 09 was probably the strongest them prem has ever been.Originally posted by danperkins View Post

If we had the 2009 side now, with Rafa as manager I think we would win the title.
The league in 2009 was a much harder league to win in than it would be now with that squad. The times they are a changin'.

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I was picking up on the 'fair crack' comment, which is patently untrue.
For the record I'm happy with the direction we're heading in and wouldn't want him back next season at all. In a few years, if things haven't gone to plan with Rogers then he'd have to be up for consideration.

But we should have won the league that year & the handshake was mostly about people moving forward and this whole Rafa coming back thingy is actually getting cringeworthy.
