Not due any compensation I don't think. He'd have to have only turned 23 during this season, and as it's a transfer abroad it would be some pretty slender set FIFA tariff. The domestic transfer compensation system is a bit more flexible.

Can has been here 4 seasons, that’s a fair chunk of his career. Maybe he just wants to experience playing in different leagues and living in different countries.

I agree with this and we will most certainly miss him. Added to this it will cost us in the region of £40m to replace him which is money we could have spent elsewhere.

Personally I think he's a good squad player but a little too slow & ponderous for a first choice starter

The Italian league is getting more competitive though.

There have been some good discussions on RAWK as well about Can's limitations, and that he doesn't actually do what a Klopp No.6 is required to do. He's shown glimpses, but he's had four seasons here, and needs a fresh challenge.

We're in danger of thinking Can is something he hasn't reached yet. He's got a long way to go to reach a world class level, and a new environment, new voices and faces, will do him the world of good.

If it was the other way around, and we were signing Can from Juventus on a freebie, I'd be delighted, because he has potential, and we'd be offering him a wonderful challenge. But it's not, and that's how it is.

Exactly this. It’s not just losing Can, it’s that it means we now may have to divert funds that could have been spent where we really need it.

I like Can, think he'll be a massive success at Juve, but if we spend £40m on a replacement and he's an improvement, even if it's only marginal, then it's money well spent.

Klopp inherited Can and he was definitely one of his favourite players at one stage, but I'm sure if he really thought he was that important to his future plans, the contract situation could easily have been ironed out.
